  2. In 2000 the Victorian State Government launched the YES Program as an employment initiative to provide 2,600 traineeships and in the public sector over a 4-year period. In 2004 the YES Program was extended for a further 4-years, to provide an additional 2,600 traineeships. YES is part of the Victorian Government’s Jobs for Victoria employment initiative. 2

  3. YES contributes the Victorian Government’s goals and targets for education by providing opportunities for young people to successfully complete Year 12 or higher qualifications. YES assists schools to meet skill and employment needs. It helps young people gain paid work experience, training and qualifications leading to sustainable employment. Since its inception, DE&T has successfully placed over 700 YES trainees in schools and TAFE Institutes. 3

YES PROGRAM BENEFITS  improves employment prospects of young Victorians  supports young people in taking their first career steps  helps build skills and opportunities in the local labour market  provides an effective pathway for employment and training  can be utilised across a broad range of occupations  is a cost effective staffing solution 4

DE&T ALLOCATION 2005/07 In March 2006, DE&T was allocated 368 traineeship positions to facilitate the YES Program for the period 1 July 2005 to 30 June 2007 (24 months). 2005/06: 184 (traineeship, apprenticeship or SBNA) 2006/07: 184 (traineeship, apprenticeship or SBNA) Target groups: indigenous, rural and disadvantaged youths Cluster arrangements: groups of schools and positions Positions available by application on DE&Tmail in August 2006 5

ELIGIBILITY  aged between 15-24  unemployed or not in full-time ongoing work  not be currently engaged in tertiary education not have attained a university level qualification SUBSIDY  YES Traineeship (12-months FT or 24-months PT) $4,500  Apprentice (FT) $4,500 1st year and $1,500 for years 2 & 3  School Based New Apprenticeship (SBNA) $1,800 6
