Derby City RPA Trial ProjectWhat have we done so far? • Management Information • Analysis of 07/08 and 08/09 cohort – who left learning early, where from and why? • Analysis of YP NEET since leaving school • Analysis of intended vs. actual destinations • Post 16 IAG Audit / Development • Initial provider IAG self-evaluation (RAG rated) across 5 phases of learner cycle, identification of good practice to inform good practice toolkit. • Post 16 provider meetings to share good practice and discuss IAG development • Post 16 IAG entitlement developed and agreed with 14-19 partnership, IYS managers and individual providers.

Derby City RPA Trial ProjectWhat have we done so far? • Delivery of IAG – Trial activities and consultation with KS2 and 3 pupils and parents, targeted post 16 support and consultation, development of RPA key messages and inclusion in relevant publication, resources, websites etc. • Integrated Youth Support Services involvement – Multi agency briefings / discussions, commitment to use IAG quality standards, initial IAG audit (Space) and support post 16 IAG entitlement and managed learning transfer process. • Managed Learning Transfer – Principles and draft process agreed.

Some key positive outcomes so far • Phase 1 of the trials has started to give us a deeper understanding of where and why learners leave learning early which will help us target support more effectively in the future – and has helped us learn lessons in the effective use of MI. • It has helped move the agenda on in terms of (CE)IAG development with post 16 providers and has laid the foundation for better sharing of good practice and closer co-operation between all providers in the future.

Some key positive outcomes so far • We have started to raise awareness of RPA among the first cohorts to be affected via a range of interventions and communications and plan to integrate RPA messages into a range of mainstream communication routes • We have started to form closer links between the Integrated Youth Support and 14-19 agendas by promoting a more joined-up approach to IAG and support for young people. • Phase 1 has increased our national profile and reputation, particularly in respect of data analysis.

  6. Next steps • Implementation of IAG entitlement through resources (KS5 resource pack), CPD, sharing good practice and Career Mark. Including ongoing work with IYSS. • Implementation of Managed Learning Transfer protocol – ongoing consultations with aim to ‘go live’ by September. • Pilot Year 11 transition mentoring activities with schools.

  7. Next Steps (cont.) • Work with parents to consult and identify how they can be better supported to meet their children’s IAG needs. • Ongoing use of data analysis to help plan and prioritise • Ongoing development of RPA related communications with young people, parents, staff, providers and other agencies (maybe)

  8. IAG Toolkit • Informed by feedback and good practice from Derby City learning providers and others. • Practical guide to different elements of ‘learner journey’ with supporting information, links and resources. • The rest of the day will follow the structure of the toolkit
