  1. All You Need TO Know About Sedation Dentistry By, Dennis Flack

  2. What Is Sedation Dentistry Fort Collins? Sedation Dentistry is when a drug or drugs are administered to produce a state of depression in the central nervous system (CNS), allowing treatment to be administered while maintaining verbal contact with the patient throughout the sedation process. Sedation Dentistry Fort Collins allows the patient to remain fully aware of their surroundings. The medications and procedures used to provide conscious sedation for dental treatment should have a large enough margin of safety that the patient will not lose consciousness. Even while under the influence of conscious sedation, the patient will be able to maintain a patent airway independently and continuously.

  3. Is Sedation Dentistry a Safe Procedure? In Sedation Dentistry, individual characteristics of the patient, medication, dose, and method of administration all play a role in the wide range of physiological effects produced. There are various levels of sedation. “Minimal sedation” refers to the lightest level of sleepiness that can be achieved in Sedation Dentistry. As stronger medications and higher doses are administered, the level of sedation progresses from light sedation to moderate sedation to deep sedation, and possibly up to general anesthesia. How long is the recovery period for Sedation Dentistry? There is no set recovery time for Sedation Dentistry. It is determined by the method of sedation you choose and how your body reacts to the medications. Patients who choose oral conscious sedation or IV sedation typically require twenty-four hours to recover completely after the procedure. Patients who receive nitrous oxide usually feel better within fifteen to thirty minutes of their treatment, at which point they can drive themselves to and from their appointments.

  4. During Sedation Dentistry, because sedated patients have a higher risk of aspiration, special consideration must be given to patients, the dilemma of the dental chair and the dental setup, and oral surgery requires the patient to be sedated. 1 Preparation for Sedation Dentistry in Fort Collins Procedures: Consent for treatment: All patients receiving dental care under conscious sedation must provide valid informed consent, which must be confirmed in writing. This consent is required of all patients receiving dental care under conscious sedation. If the patient is under 18, the consent form must be signed by the child's parent or legal guardian. Patient History: A thorough history and physical examination of the patient are performed during the presentation checkup to be classified according to the standards established by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA).

  5. The Benefits of Sedation Dentistry Sedation Dentistry helps patients overcome their fears and anxieties about going to the dentist, making them feel more at ease and relaxed throughout their treatment. If you are sedated during dental work, your dentist may be able to finish the procedure faster, resulting in fewer appointments overall. Finally, going to the dentist is something that many people avoid because they are afraid of the experience. Sedation Dentistry makes you feel more relaxed, allowing you to receive the dental care you require and deserve.
