  2. What is Love? • God is Love

  3. What is Love? If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. 1 John 4:20 • God is Love • Therefore:

  4. Where is the Love? • Not in manmade religion. One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?” Luke 10:25

  5. Where is the Love? • Not in manmade religion. • Love is the essence of biblical ethics. The man answered, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Luke 10:27 Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?” Luke 10:26 “Right!” Jesus told him. “Do this and you will live!” Luke 10:28

  6. How do you read it?” Luke 10:26 …the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should…” Romans 8:26

  7. Where is the Love? • Not in manmade religion. • Love is the essence of biblical ethics. • Love is what you give, not what you get. “Right!” Jesus told him. “Do thisand you will live!” Luke 10:28

  8. A Real-World Example of Love Ethics • The World is a Vampire • Full of thieves. The man wanted to justify his actions, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus replied with a story… “A Jewish man was traveling on a trip from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he was attacked by bandits. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him up, and left him half dead beside the road.” Luke 10:30

  9. A Real-World Example of Love Ethics • The World is a Vampire • Manmade Religion is indifferent & guilty. • “Sins of Omission” "And by chance a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Luke 10:31 "Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. Luke 10:32

  10. A Real-World Example of Love Ethics • The World is a Vampire • Manmade Religion is indifferent & guilty. • Love Heals… and came to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn and took care of him. “On the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return I will repay you.’ ” “But a Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion…” “Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers' hands?” And he said, “The one who showed mercy toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.”

  11. A Real-World Example of Love Ethics "But if you had known what this means, 'I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT A SACRIFICE,' you would not have condemned the innocent. Matthew 12:7 The righteous is concerned for the rights of the poor, The wicked does not understand such concern. Proverbs 29:7 • The World is a Vampire • Manmade Religion is indifferent & guilty. • Love Heals… • Based on need, not merit “But a Samaritan, who was on a journey, and when he saw him, he felt compassion…”
