  1. SIP MIBdraft-ietf-sip-mib-01.txt Joon Maeng Dave Walker Kevin Lingle

  2. Background • -00 draft • design team merged Cisco UA MIB and SS8 server MIB • -01 draft • incorporates comments received on mailing list, at IETF-47, from implementors • goal • submit to IESG Oct 00 (date revised at IETF-47) Dave Walker SS8 Networks

  3. New Partitioning • -00 groups split into -01 modules • SIP-Common-MIB • SIP-UA-MIB • SIP-Server-MIB • SIP-Registrar-MIB • support modules • SIP-MIB-SMI (base module) • SIP-TC (textual conventions) Dave Walker SS8 Networks

  4. Counters • -00 had counters for all methods in RFC, -01 has • counters for methods in RFC • counters for any other methods (specify by name string) • -00 had counters for all status codes in RFC, -01 has • summary counters by class • counters for any specific status code (specify by value) • notification on occurence of specific status code Dave Walker SS8 Networks

  5. Multiple Instances • support for multiple SIP entities per system • different entity types (ex. Registrar + Proxy Server) • same entity type (ex. multiple Registrars) • common MIBs must be separate • -01 uses Network Services MIB (RFC 2788) • each application has entry/description in applTable(indexed by applIndex) • all SIP MIB objects now contained in tables indexed by applIndex (plus other indexes for previous tabular objects) Dave Walker SS8 Networks

  6. Other Changes • removed INFO method stats (follows RFC 2543 only) • added ExtMethodTable to count use of new methods • SipProxyUseCompact (rw) changed to SipCanUseCompact (ro) • added multicast to sipTransport • removed sipProxyRecordRoute (internal proxy policy) • write access to contacts table (for UAs not supporting REGISTER) Dave Walker SS8 Networks

  7. Issue: Notification Throttling • can currently request notifications for status codes • intended for rare occurences, but open to abuse • options (more than one can be implemented) • add warning about danger • allow a one-shot notification • notification only when In/Out threshold exceeded in interval Dave Walker SS8 Networks

  8. Issue: Security Objects • out? in? changes? • proxy MIB • for Proxy-Authenticate • method (none, basic, digest) • authentication realm • nonce lifetime • proxyAuthTable (realm, password) [move to registrar? copy to UA?] • PGP [WWW-Authenticate & Encryption: end-to-end - move to UA?] • version (ro) • algorithm (other,md5,sha1) (rw) • private key (rw) [remove?] • registrar MIB • password (rw) for each registered user [need realm (=proxyAuthTable)?] Dave Walker SS8 Networks

  9. Issue: Transaction Table • currently maintain count of all active transactions, plus... for every transaction in progress, maintains • header content: To, From, Call-Id, CSeq, Expiry, Content-Type • number of outstanding branches • client/server state (as defined in 10.5.1) • problems • overly burdensome on proxies • pointless for registrars • solution? • create call-leg table for UA only (no CSeq, Expiry) Dave Walker SS8 Networks

  10. What’s Next? • next draft ready for WG Last Call? • please don’t wait til then to review it! ! ! ! ! ! Dave Walker SS8 Networks
