  2. Appalachian Rainforest: The Appalachian rainforest receives one of the highest rainfall-it receives 60 inches of rain every year. The Appalachian rainforest is a temperate rainforest situated on the east of the U.S. The forest stretches for 351,500 sq. km across southwestern Virginia, North Carolina, and east of Tennessee. High canopy trees dominate the skyline and other tree species like red spruce, yellow birch, mountain maple and it is home to more than 10,000 unique species of flora and fauna.

This 17-million-acre rainforest is larger than the Pacific temperate rainforest and is home to some of the most endangered species of animals and plants.
