  1. What factors lead to IVDD in dogs? Dogs with intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) may also have a ruptured, slipped, bulging, or herniated disk. Although it can affect dogs of any breed, the most common species that exhibit this condition include beagles, dachshunds, Pekingese, Shih Tzus, basset hounds, and American cocker spaniels. Intervertebral Disc Disease is an age-related, progressive degenerative process that slowly deteriorates the dog's spinal cord over time, frequently going undetected. Even with yearly wellness exams, your dog's hardened disc or discs might rupture before your dog's symptoms of IVDD become obvious and painful. An IVDD- weakened disc could be hurt by something as simple as jumping onto the sofa. ivdd dog treatment without surgery The shock-absorbing discs between your dog's vertebrae gradually start to harden until they cannot adequately cushion the vertebrae, which causes IVDD. The hardened discs will typically continue to enlarge and compress the spinal cord, frequently harming the nerve impulses that control the dog's bladder and bowel movements. In other situations, a short jump or a shoddy landing can cause one or more hardened discs to rupture and press into the dog's spinal cord's nerves, resulting in discomfort, potential nerve damage, or even paralysis. How is IVDD identified in dogs? Any of the aforementioned symptoms in your dog must be treated by a veterinarian right away. Standard x-rays, a neurological examination, and an MRI to help identify the disc or discs causing your dog's symptoms are frequently used to diagnose intervertebral disc disease. Most of the time intervertebral disc disease in dogs treatment is also used. Pet owners frequently ponder whether their dog will fully recover from IVDD without surgery. Early IVDD diagnosis may be treated with steroid and anti-inflammatory drugs (to help with swelling and pain reduction) and strict crate rest for 4–6 weeks, according to your veterinarian.
