  2. HEAVEN • The 7th study in the series. • Studies written by William Carey. • Presentation by Michael Salzman. • All texts from the New King James version. • All rights reserved.

  3. 1-H Heaven • How many heavens are there? • II Corinthians 12:2 • I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago, -- whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows -- such a one caught up to the third heaven.

  4. 1-H Heaven • Since there is a third heaven, there must be a first and a second. What are these three heavens? 1. The aerial heaven where the birds fly (Rev.19:17) where the clouds form and from which the rain and snow come. This is the belt of air which reaches from the surface of the earth up into the sky.

  5. 1-H Heaven This first heaven will pass away some day and God will make a new, pure atmosphere; a new first heaven to surround the new earth which He will make. (II Peter 3:10,13 - Rev.21:1) 2- The starry heaven where the sun, moon and stars move in their orbits. (Ps. 19:1-4)

  6. 1-H Heaven 3- The third heaven is Paradise where the throne of God is and where Jesus is now. • II Corinthians 12:4 • how he was caught up into paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

  7. 2-H Heaven • What is Jesus doing in Heaven now? • John 14:2,3 • “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3- “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

  8. 3-H Heaven • What is this place prepared by Jesus? • Hebrews 11:16, 10 • But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them. • For he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

  9. 3-H Heaven • This place that Jesus has prepared is the City of God or the New Jerusalem. This city is described in the last two chapters of the Bible.

  10. 4-H Heaven • How big is the New Jerusalem? • Revelation 21:10-18 • And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, • having the glory of God. Her light was like a most stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.

  11. 4-H Heaven 12- Also she had a great and high wall, with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written them, which are the namesof the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: 13- three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west.

  12. 4-H Heaven 14- Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the namesof the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 15- And he who talked with me had a gold reed to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.

  13. 4-H Heaven 16- The city laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. 17- Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel.

  14. 4-H Heaven 18- The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. • This New Jerusalem is 12,000 furlongs or 1,500 miles in circumference, or 375 miles on each side. It contains 140,625 square miles. It would be as large as three average size states.

  15. 4-H Heaven It has a wall of Jasper 216 feet high; 12 foundations of 12 precious stones; 12 gates each made from one solid pearl; streets of gold, and mansions of gold, for the saints. Through Jesus you may lay claim to the mansion Jesus has made for you.

  16. 5-H Heaven • What will it be like to live in this city? • Revelation 21:4 • And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be nomorepain, for the former things have passed away.

  17. 5-H Heaven • It is a city where everyone will have a perfect immortal body: where there will be no sickness, trouble, or death; where His people will be perfectly happy through all eternity.

  18. 6-H Heaven • Where is the New Jerusalem going to be located? • Revelation 21:1-3 • Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.

  19. 6-H Heaven 2- Then I, John saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3- And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be with them, and be their God.

  20. 6-H Heaven • This New Jerusalem will be the capital of the new earth. The New Jerusalem is now in the third heaven. The saints will all go up to that city when Jesus comes and will reign with Him there for 1,000 years. At the end of that 1,000 years, this earth will be made over into the new earth, free from all sin and sinners.

  21. 6-H Heaven The New Jerusalem will come to rest on this new earth as it’s grand capital. With Christ, the saints will reign forever over this city and the earth made new.

  22. 7-H Heaven • What must we do to be able to enter into the city of New Jerusalem? • Revelation 22:14 • Blessed are those who doHis commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. • We must keep all of God’s Commandments.

  23. 8-H Heaven • What will we be like when we get to New Jerusalem? • Philippians 3:20, 21 • For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

  24. 8-H Heaven 21- who will transformour lowly bodythat it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself. • We will each have a glorious spiritual body, just as Jesus has. ( I John3:2)(I Cor. 15:44)

  25. 9-H Heaven • How will we know each other in Heaven? • John 20:11-16 • But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb. 12- And she saw two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

  26. 9-H Heaven 13- Then they said to her, “Woman, why weeping?” She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid Him.” 14- Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there and did not know that it was Jesus.

  27. 9-H Heaven 15- Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”

  28. 9-H Heaven 16- Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher). • Just as Mary knew Jesus by His VOICE after His resurrection, SO we will KNOW our friends in heaven by their voices.

  29. 10-H Heaven • In what other ways will we know each other in Heaven? • John 20:27, 28 • Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side, Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”

  30. 10-H Heaven 28- And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God.” • Just as Thomas recognized Jesus by His APPEARANCE, SO we will recognize our friends in heaven.

  31. 11-H Heaven • Are there any other ways we will know each other in Heaven? • Matthew 17:3, 4 • And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. 4- Then answered Peter and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here:

  32. 11-H Heaven if you wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” • Just as the disciples on the mount of transfiguration recognized Moses and Elijah, men whom they had never seen before, men who had lived on earth hundreds of years before their time,

  33. 11-H Heaven yet, by spiritual powers of cognition, they knew them. (Moses had been raised by Christ and taken to heaven, see Jude 9) SO with our glorious spiritual bodies, we will have powers of recognition and cognition to know millions of people in heaven that we have never seen before.

  34. 12-H Heaven • I Corinthians 13:12 • For now we see through a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. • We will know each other fully then, as God knows us individually now!

  35. HEAVEN • Are you looking forward to the Coming of Jesus Christ, so that we can go to Heaven with him to live?
