On June, 14th, 1890 the emperor Alexander III has signed the Decree about establishment in six districts of Russia of industrial schools including the joint industrial school in Kazan.On 9 of January, 1919 the Polytechnical institute had 4 faculties such as chemical, mechanical, architectural and economic.
On January, 13th, 1930 on the basis of chemical faculty of Polytechnical institute and chemical faculty of the Kazan state university the Kazan chemical institute of technology named Butlerov has been created In 1935 the institute has been renamed into the Kazan chemical institute of technology named Kirov (KCIT)
The Kazan state technological university (КSTU) with 9 faculties and 25 specialties.
Since 2010 KSTU is the National research university of chemistry and technology of advanced materials «Kazan state technological university»
