  2. Activities’ week at CVC • 2nd week in July: Extra- curricular activities offered to pupils at CVC • Year 7: residential trip to Beaumanor Hall • 30 CVC staff go- most of Year 7 pupils go.

  3. Timings and Cost • We will leave Comberton Village College on the morning of Monday July 11th and return around 2.30pm on Friday 15th July. • The cost is £192 payable in 3 instalments of £64. • Second instalment is due 4th February and final payment is due 1st April 2011. • This includes all accommodation, food, transport and all activities led by both Beaumanor and Comberton staff.

  4. Where is and what is Beaumanor? Beaumanor Education Centre is located in the grounds of Beaumanor Park adjacent to Beaumanor Hall. It is situated in the Leicestershire village of Woodhouse surrounded by 30 acres of gardens and parkland. • archery • canoeing • climbing • challenges • arts and crafts • walking • orienteering • high ropes The range of activities cover:

  5. Sleeping arrangements 5 cabins – 16-20 beds and staff Large single sex campsites with staff. 3 max in tent. Approved tent. Single sex standing camp on the boys’ side (with tents already there which sleep 6) Good facilities – showers, toilets, drying room Camping equipment information evenings to follow…

  6. Day activities • Evening meals, breakfast and lunch. • Day: activities, staff, Beaumanor staff and 3 groups together. • Pictures…

  7. What happens in the evening? • More activities! (sporting or none) • 9.00pm – Hot chocolate and cookies for all! • Thursday night – Talent Show and Disco

  8. What you need to bring • Sleeping bag + pillow • Torch • Soap/toothbrush/other toiletries • Towel and swimming costume • Sun hat • Sun cream or sun block • Small rucksack or bag for day trips • Plastic drinks container • Medication • Bag for wet/dirty clothes • 2 pairs of jeans/joggers or casual trousers • A set of clothes which will get wet • 2 jumpers/fleeces/sweatshirts • Light walking shoes or trainers • Trainers/shoes which will get wet • Shorts and T shirts • Socks and underwear for one week • Waterproof jacket (most important) PLEASE NOTE – NO MOBILE PHONES – THERE IS A PHONE BOX ON SITE AND YOU WILL BE PROVIDED WITH EMERGENCY NUMBERS FOR MRS BURGESS (and other staff ) AND BEAUMANOR HALL.

  9. Campers • They will need to bring all the things listed on the previous page and: • A 2 or 3 person waterproof tent (need to be approved by our staff) • Foam sleeping mat • Peg mallet • Spare tent pegs • Plastic bowl and plate • Cutlery • Tea towel

  11. Watch out for more information evenings in the Summer Term where further information will be given on accommodation at Beaumanor: • Staying in a cabin • Staying in a tent ( advice on the best equipment to buy at an affordable price etc…)

  12. Getting ready to go… • Spring/Summer Term- Training given to campers on how to put tents up and set camp. • Assemblies to give information ( video of the grounds etc…)

  13. ALL BELONGINGS/ EQUIPMENT SHOULD PACK INTO ONE RUCKSACK, BAG OR SMALL CASE Please label all clothing and equipment

  14. Insurance The school carries insurance for personal accident for pupils and staff. Please Note Pupils are advised not to bring any items of value as we cannot accept responsibility for their security.

  15. Pocket Money We recommend that they do notbring more than £10 in smallchange. Beaumanor has a small gift shop which pupils visit once.

  16. First Aid • Basic First Aid kits with us. • Qualified First Aid staff at Beaumanor Hall and among Comberton staff. • If your child requires prescription medication during the week, written instructions regarding this should be given to Mrs Burgess. • Personal medication will be looked after by group leaders (unless your child is responsible for their own Epipen). • Medical needs and food allergy information will be shared with staff at Beaumanor.

  17. Day time activities- further details: There are eight different daytime activities for your children to try. They are all staffed by both Beaumanor and Comberton staff • Climbing • Canoeing • Archery • Orienteering • Walking • Just Be – Art & Craft • Challenges • High Ropes course Each evening after dinner there are more activities, including a visit to the cellars, 50-a-side football, disco, talent show, murder mystery.

  18. Climbing Gain the confidence to climb a rock face. Pupils will travel to and from the climbing area by minibus. All the equipment (helmets, ropes and harnesses) will be provided. SAFETY IS VITAL. THEY MUST LISTEN CAREFULLY TO THE INSTRUCTIONS.

  19. CANOEING This activity takes place at Quorn Hall International Education Centre which is about three miles from Beaumanor. Canoeing takes place on the River Soar. Tuition is in open canoes. Buoyancy aids are provided and must be worn.

  20. ARCHERY Archery takes place in the gym on the Beaumanor Site and consists of an introduction to archery. During the session there will be opportunities for the pupils to test their skill against the others in a shooting competition. There may also be time to have a go at shooting balloons and ‘round the face/clock’ competition.

  21. ORIENTEERING This activity will take place at Beacon Hill close to Beaumanor Hall. There will be a series of courses to be followed. This activity will be linked to the walking activity so pupils will be away from the site all day and have their packed lunch at the Beacon.

  22. Walking • This activity is linked to the orienteering on Beacon Hill. • We either walk to the Hill for orienteering or back to the Hall afterwards. • We have lunch in the middle of these two half day activities.

  23. JUST BE CREATIVE AND ARTISTIC! This is a session where pupils will be able to develop their creative side. This session will be run by staff from CVC.

  24. CHALLENGES This is a series of (6-8) small tasks and challenges which pupils have to work out as a team. They will work together and be trusted with specific tasks. This will help to build self-confidence.

  25. High Ropes • This is the newest and possibly most popular activity at Beaumanor. • These elements involve a high degree of team work and trust as well as individual courage and determination.

  26. Staff views on Beaumanor A rewarding experience for both staff and students. Discovery of and attempt at new activities. Experience camping. Making new friends, personal and social development.
