  1. Rise Up O Men of God(Revelation 14)

  2. “Give me a hundred men who love nothing but God and hate nothing but sin, and I will shake the whole world for Christ.” John Wesley

  3. Structure of Chs. 6-16 7 Seal Judgments (ch. 6) Interlude (Sealing of the 144,000) 7 Trumpet Judgments (chs. 8-9) Several Interludes 7 Bowl Judgments (ch. 16)

  4. Interludes • Eating the little book (ch. 10) • Two witnesses (ch. 11) • Woman, child, and the dragon (ch. 12) • The beast and the false prophet (ch. 13) • The 144,000 (14:1-5) • Four angelic announcements (14:6-20)

  5. The context is the intense drama of the Tribulation. The unholy trinity is doing their harm to the servants of God. It is time for the final set of judgments – the bowls of God’s wrath to be poured upon the earth. I believe 14:1-4 is a sneak preview of the conclusion of the Tribulation. It pictures the victorious Christ standing on His holy hill with the heroes of the Tribulation – the 144,000 faithful Jewish witnesses.

  6. These are the 144,000 who were sealed in chapter 7. That sealing symbolized possession and protection (Rev. 9:4). But here we read of their victory and their virtue. • Their Victory (14:1-3) II. Their Virtue (14:4-5)

  7. I. Their Victory (14:1-3)  with Christ  standing on Mt. Zion  heavenly orchestra  new song  audience of God, the four creatures & the redeemed

  8. Options • Literal 144,000 Jews or innumerable saints? • Heavenly Mt. Zion or earthly Jerusalem? • During or after the Tribulation ? • Martyred by the beasts or survived the Trib.?

  9. Options • Literal 144,000 Jews or innumerable saints? • Heavenly Mt. Zion or earthly Jerusalem? • During or after the Tribulation ? • Martyred by the beasts or survived the Trib.?

  10. Mt. Zion  But as for Me, I have installed My king upon Zion, My holy mountain.” (Psalm 2)  Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion…, the city of the great King. (Ps. 48:2) For the LORD of hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and His glory will be before His elders. (Isaiah 24:23)

  11. I. Their Victory (14:1-3)  with Christ  standing on Mt. Zion  heavenly orchestra  new song  audience of God, the four creatures & the redeemed

  12. II. Their Virtue (14:4-5) • Sexual Purity • Radically Devoted to Christ • Speaking the Truth • Blameless

  13. 1. Sexual Purity “These are the ones who have not been defiled with women, for they have kept themselves chaste”

  14. “the body is not for immorality, but for the Lord, … Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be! Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, "THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.” But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.”

  15. “Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.” (1 Cor. 6:13-20)

  16. “How diligently the cavalry officer keeps his sabre clean and sharp; every stain he rubs off with the greatest care. Remember you are God’s sword,—His instrument,—I trust a chosen vessel unto Him to bear His name. In great measure, according to the purity and perfections of the instrument, will be the success. It is not great talents God blesses so much as great likeness to Jesus.” Robert Murray McCheyne (10/02/1840 letter)

  17. Proverbs 5 Practice Distance (5:7-8) Understand the Injury of Sin (5:9-14, 22-23) Rejoice in Your Wife (5:15-19) Eye of God (5:20-21)

  18. 2. Radically Devoted to Christ “These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes.”  Redemption  First fruits In the Old Testament first fruits were the first part of the crop, which were offered to God (Deut. 26:1-11) to be used in His service (Deut. 18:3-5)

  19. 3. Speaking the Truth “And no lie (error) was found in their mouth”  While the world is under the deception of the False Prophet, these men will declare the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help them God. They will be men of God’s Word.

  20. 4. Blameless “they are blameless”  These men will be above reproach and accusation, leading godly lives before the world

  21. II. Their Virtue (14:4-5) • Sexual Purity • Radically Devoted to Christ a. redemption b. first fruits 3. Speaking the Truth 4. Blameless

  22. The 144,000 These men were sexually pure for Christ, radically devoted to Christ, speaking the truth for Christ, and blameless for Christ. These are the kind of people God uses – pure, committed, truth-speaking, blameless men and women. May their tribe increase!
