  2. Welcome to Open House • Please sign in • Tonight we’ll learn all about our Pre-Kindergarten class • If you have any questions during my presentation, please feel free to ask.

  3. Contact Info • My school e-mail address is: Amanda.rush@beaufort.k12.sc.us • My classroom telephone # is: (843) 322-8353 This phone will not ring in the room between 8:00am-3:45pm. Please leave a message and I will return your call.

  4. School InfoSchool Hours • School hours are 8:30-3:30 • Please ensure that your child arrives early enough to eat breakfast and be in their classroom by 8:30 ready to learn. • If a student arrives after 8:30, they must be signed in and receive a tardy slip in order to come to class. • Early dismissals are causing a lot of problems. Students are losing instructional time and disrupting classes. • Please refrain from picking your child up until after 3:30 unless it’s an emergency, • If any Pre-K student misses 10 days of school, due to absences and/or tardiness, your child may be dismissed from the Pre-K Program.

  5. School InfoTransportation • The new Car Rider procedures will take effect starting Monday, October 8th. • Car Rider dismissal will now be located in the front of the building. There will be double lines of cars until you reach the fire lane where you will merge into one lane. • When dropping your child off in the morning, if they arrive before 8:00, they will enter the cafeteria through the outside door. If they arrive after 8:00, they will enter the building through the main entrance. • If your child has a change in transportation, please send a note in your child’s folder.

  6. School InfoUniforms Students must be in uniforms everyday. If a student arrives to school not in uniform, you will be contacted to provide a change of clothes or come pick up your child to change. Uniforms are: • Tops: White, Navy Blue, Black, and Red • Bottoms: Khaki, Navy Blue, or Black If the bottoms have belt loops, a belt must be worn.

  7. School InfoLunch Students normally have 3 to 4 choices for lunch daily. All lunches include an entrée, one side, one fruit, and a milk. Students are given ample amount of time to eat during their lunch period. If parents or family are coming to have lunch with students, they may only provide lunch for THEIR child and NO FAST FOOD is allowed. Broad River is proud of our healthy lunch choices, therefore please help us keep them healthy.

  8. Visitors &Volunteers • Broad River Elementary School welcomes visitors and special guests at all times! We appreciate parents, grandparents, volunteers and community members visiting our school. Our main priority is the safety of our students and staff. All visitors will be required to sign-in before entering our building using the Lobby Guard System. • Individuals interested in volunteering should submit an online application and, as a condition to engage in volunteer activities, consent to a criminal history check.   9. Waterford • Waterford is an Early Learning computer program that is implemented district wide. • Our Pre-K students are on a rotation daily to receive time on the computer program. When engaged in Waterford, our students spend 15-30 minutes doing activities and playing games to promote ABCs and numbers. • Waterford includes Reading, Math, and Science.

  10. Edmodo • Edmodo is replacing the district wide PowerSchool program. • Edmodo is similar to Facebook where each classroom has a page and you have friends.. • At this time, Pre-K is working on creating a website for parents since Pre-K students are not able to register for Edmodo.

  11. Everyday Math • Everyday Math is the district wide math program. • In Pre-K, Everyday math prepares students for number recognition, counting, sorting, and categorizing. • This programs includes, games, songs, and movies which helps engage students. • Each students has a log-in card to play the games at home. Be sure to get yours before you leave.

  12. Creative Curriculum Please pick up your copy of Learning Objectives to work with your child at home!

  13. Checkpoints Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies: Gold has three checkpoint periods through the year (report cards)

  14. Centers • Creative Curriculum is primarily center based learning. • Students can participate in Literacy Centers, Math Centers, and Free Choice Centers daily. • Our classroom centers are: ABC’s Math Computers WritingPuzzles Library Art Listening Exploration

  15. Communication Folders • Communications folders will be sent home daily with information for parents/ guardians, a monthly calendar including specials rotations and snack rotations, and any notes from the teacher. • Please empty out the folders nightly and be sure to check the calendar for behavior, specials, and snack. • Please return the folders each day. • If you need to send a note in, please place it in your child’s folder so it can be easily seen.

  16. E-mail Communication • I would like to start sending newsletters and classroom letters via e-mail to save our copies and paper. • I encourage everyone to sign up so that I may contact you through e-mail about your child, send newsletters to all parents at the same time, and send out reminders for upcoming events or important things. • Please print your e-mail clearly on the sign up sheet to ensure that I can read it and enter it properly.

  17. Classroom Rules • Students created the rules as a class the first week of school. They are posted on our walls and students review them daily to ensure they’re doing the right thing at all times. • We will do our personal best • We will be kind and respectful to others • We will keep our hands and feet to ourselves • We will take care of our classroom • We will listen to our teachers and follow all directions • We will follow all hallway rules. We will stay in line with our class and use a voice level of 0

  18. Behavior System • Students helped create and write the classroom rules so that we know that we are following directions. • All students start out on GREEN • Students are given a warning to correct their behavior before they have to move to YELLOW. When on yellow, students will sit out for 5 minutes at recess and centers. • If behavior is not corrected and continues, students will have to move to RED. When on red, students will lose all recess, centers, and will receive a note or call home.

  19. Lunch • Our class goes to lunch from 10:45-11:15. • Students make their lunch choice in the morning. Please keep the menu on your fridge to help students make their choices before coming to school. • Lunch for Pre- K is FREE. • If you are coming to eat with your child, you are only allowed to bring lunch for your child and we ask that you not bring fast food.

  20. Snack Rotation • Our classroom is doing a snack rotation where each child is responsible for providing snack and drink for 20 students only 1 time a month. This rotations helps save parents money and the hassle of having to pack a snack everyday, • Please check the monthly calendar to see when your child’s snack day is • Please let me know if you may need assistance in providing snack. • Please remember to send healthy snacks suck as pretzels, crackers, cereal, or granola bars. • ONLY STORE BOUGHT snacks can be provided, I have to be able to open the seal at school to ensure that no child will be harmed by the food or drink.

  21. Specials Our specials are on a daily rotation. Specials are from 9:50-10:20. • Monday: Spanish • Tuesday: Media • Wednesday: Art • Thursday: Music • Friday: P.E. Please ensure that your child wears the appropriate clothing and shoes for each special. Please dress your child in tennis shoes for Music and P.E.

  22. Parent/Teacher Conferences • The district has set aside two days for Parent/Teacher Conferences • Thursday, October 25th from 4:00pm-8:00pm • Friday, October 26th from 9:00am-12:00pm • I will also be doing conferences prior to the districts required days • Monday, October 22nd from 4:00pm-5:00pm • Tuesday, October 23rd from 4:00pm-5:00pm • It is essential that each parent sign up for a conference so we can discuss your child’s progress and plan for future instruction. We will also review the checkpoint (report card) and discuss what you can do at home to help.
