  5. What Are The Benefits of Computerized Voting? • Saves money • Ease of use • Alleviate any discrepancies

  6. Preliminary Results: • Few problems emerged with touch screen and other high-tech voting machines that made their full-scale debut in more than 200 counties nationwide. • Technical problems characterized as minor were reported in three of Georgia's 159 counties, with two machines failing in one.

  7. There was no sign of trouble in Florida counties Miami-Dade and Broward. • No problems were reported in Montgomery County, Maryland, where election judges were retrained on the same kind of touch screen machines used in Georgia.

  8. No troubles were reported in the nation's largest county to go all-electronic: Harris County, Texas, which includes Houston. The new Harris system uses 5.2-pound machines that look like personal digital assistants and use a dial to highlight names. "It was so easy," said voter Amy Schreider, 57, who owns a small roofing company with her husband. "It took two seconds."

  10. Concerns for High Tech Voting • Flaws in the software • Voting companies do not need to reveal their code to outside, independent reviewers because of proprietary protection. • Officials would like a more substantive paper trail of the voting history with each machine

  11. AND OF COURSE… • Security • Many security gurus worry that the electronic systems are vulnerable to hacking, fraud, and voter confusion.
