This is my defense to those who would examine me. Do we not have the right to our food and drink? Do we not have the rightto be accompanied by a believing wife…? Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no rightto refrain from working for a living? 9:1,3-6, NRSV A Missionary surrenders his God-Given Right to support that the Gospel may be free. 9:19-22

Num.11:4-6) 10:6 And the mixed multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic: But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.

Exo. 32:1-6) 10:7 The people…said unto [Aaron], Up, make us gods, which shall go before us …And Aaron said…Break off the golden earrings… and [he]… made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel which brought thee out of…Egypt

  13. (3) Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed,and fell (cp. Num. 25:1-9) 10:8 Israel…and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab. And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

  14. (4) Presumption: Neither let us temptChrist (put Christ to the test), as some of themalso tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. (Cp. Num. 21:5ff)10:9 • they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the desert? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!"

Num. 16) 10:10 • Now Korah…Dathan and Abiram…and On, …took men…with two hundred and fifty princes…against Moses and…Aaron, and said …Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy…Num. 16:1-3

(cf. Deut. 32:16, 17, 21) • The Reasoning: Believers cannot take part at the Lord’s Table & the Table of demons. 10:21 • We should not Rouse or Provoke the Lord to jealousy – He is Powerful. 10:22

(25) • The Master’s Meat, the earth is the Lord’s.(26) • At a Meal, ask no questions. 10:27 Cf. Eat, for you have given thanks. 10:30 The Christian’s Conduct for Conscience Sake: Eat not, if told food has been offered to idols(28) Deny Self for the other’s Conscience sake. (28f) “But why should I Denounce my liberty?”(29f) Do it to Glorify God… (31)
