  3. 1. The Real World Issue (cont.) • Don’t dedicate a lot of time describing the issue • Have prepared handouts if a large degree of background knowledge is required to understanding your issue

  4. 2. The Knowledge Issue • Try to think of an obvious (and not tenuous) knowledge issue connected to your real world example • Sometimes it is easier to phrase your knowledge issue as a question

  5. 2. The Knowledge Issue (cont.) • For example: • 1. To what extent should we accept knowledge by authority? • 2. Do those who possess knowledge have an obligation to use it?

  6. 3. Explore the knowledge issue • Explain what it means in general terms- put it into your own words • Then describe the relationship between the issue and the real world example • Integrate the Ways of Knowing- Perception, Language, Emotion & Reason

  7. 3. Explore the knowledge issues • Consider counter claims: • One of the ways to do this is to take a particular stance on the issue- argue for one side • The consider counter claims but avoid a……. • debate

  8. 4. Apply knowledge claim to other AoKs/issues • For example; To what extent should we accept knowledge by authority? • Science? • History? • Ethics/Religion?
