Threshold Congregation Project The Threshold Congregation Project is designed to build on the strengths of UUSD and enable the Church to grow in membership, in spiritual depth, in purposeful commitment within, and in outreach. • Growth Areas: • Increasing the number of members • Maturation (worship and spiritual enhancement) • Organic growth (leadership development) • Incarnation growth (outreach and social justice) • Associational growth (participation in UU activities outside the Church).

Threshold Congregation Task Force TCTF Operating Principles: • The Growth Plan is owned by the Congregation • Task Force meetings are open to all Members • Congregation input into the Growth Plan are maintained • The final draft of the Growth Plan will be approved by the Board of Trustees • as well as the Congregation (January 20) • Growth Plan goals and strategies will reflect current and planned growth • initiatives of the Board of Trustees, the Committees and the Congregation • The implementation of the Growth Plan Goals will be coordinated by the • Threshold Congregation Task Force • CERG resources (consultants, technical support, seminars) will be available • to assist with the implementation of Growth Plan Goals.

  4. UUSD Growth Plan Goals Goal 1: Revisit the current Vision and Mission statements to assure they reflect the heart of the Congregation. Goal 2: Attract, develop and retain congregational leaders to help meet UUSD’s Vision and Mission. Goal 3: Attract and welcome diverse new members and friends and retain existing members. Goal 4: Expand the understanding of our UU religious tradition in order to be a spiritual resource for ourselves and the community at large. Goal 5: Make informed congregational decisions about our physical space and take responsible and timely steps toward implementing those decisions. Goal 6: Broaden the Congregation’s impact on social and environmental justice outreach.

Gary Colangelo • Our Mission • UUSD is a welcoming congregation proudly providing a liberal spiritual home for people of free faith through worship, education, community, outreach, and social and environmental justice. • Our Vision • Creating a diverse spiritual world community that celebrates and fosters the search for meaning, connection and acceptance. • Ad hoc committee • Review current Mission and Vision—determine if change is needed • Six month process (January to June, 2013 • CERG consultant (Mark Bernstein to facilitate)

  6. Goal 2: Attract, develop and retain congregational leaders to help meet UUSD’s Vision and Mission. Pat Schaeffer • THE PURPOSE OF GOAL #2 IS: • To provide our leaders with the skills and resources to be effective • STEPS TO ACCOMPLISH THIS INCLUDE: • Helping committees identify and prepare new chairs • Helping new committee chairs get off to a good start • Recognizing committees making ‘outstanding’ contributions • Providing ongoing resources for Church Council committee chairs • RESPONSIBILITY FOR COMPLETING THESE STEPS ARE WITH: • Board of Trustees and Church Council members

  8. Goal 4: Expand the understanding of our UU religious tradition in order to be a spiritual resource for ourselves and the community at large. Lin Schmidt Deanna Duby • Purpose of Goal #4:  Focus on the role of UUSD as a spiritual resource • Strategies: • Build on the effectiveness and reach of our worship services • Broaden offerings in children's and adult education, to develop new opportunities for spiritual growth • Make services increasingly accessible and visitor friendly • Major responsibility for implementing these strategies: • Minister, Worship Committee, LSFD Committee

  10. Goal 6: Broaden the Congregation’s impact on social and environmental justice outreach. Joe Farrell • Provide core UUSD social and environmental programs, grounded in UU principles which help create a UUSD identity in  the greater community • Sponsor congregation wide opportunities for UUSD members to engage in hands-on opportunities in social and environmental justice issues and action • Explore ways to communicate and engage congregation in ongoing and new social and environmental justice outreach • Engage in interfaith or community-wide social and environmental justice action • Broaden use of media to publicize and create awareness of UUSD social and environmental justice efforts in greater community
