  1. Benjamin McDowd ASU 101 Assignment 1

  2. Introduction • My name is Benjamin McDowd. I prefer to be called by my nickname, “Kal.” • This is my first year at ASU. I am a Computer Systems Engineering major student. • I have Senior standing by number of credit hours. • I have previously attended Colorado State University and the University of Maryland, College Park.

  3. Background Information • I graduated from High School in Aurora, CO in 2000. • I attended Colorado State University for one year before joining the U.S. Navy to earn money to complete school. • I served for 6+ years as an Electrician’s Mate on the nuclear-powered submarine USS Columbus (SSN-762). • I separated from active duty in May, 2007 and spent the next school year at the University of Maryland, College Park.

  4. Background, cont. • I transferred to ASU this school year. I am enjoying the mild winter (it’s dreadfully cold in the D.C. area this time of year). • I have completed nearly all of my general studies requirements and the first two years’ worth of CSE major requirements. • I expect to graduate in Spring, 2011.

  5. Why I Chose CSE • My experience in the Navy was as an Electrician’s Mate – I learned how to operate and repair all of the electrical equipment onboard the submarine. • I enjoy learning about and using computers for work, school, and leisure. • I look forward to being able to work on and solve a diverse set of problems as a Computer Engineer in any number of fields. • I would like to work in the Department of Defense sector or in the Energy sector.
