  3. The Hybrid Library • In 2002 only 5% ARL subscripitions e-only • In 2006 37% ARL subscriptions e-only (Chandra Prabha, 2007) • Some libraries have already completed the transition (es. Conclusions • Despite VAT rate, European Library consortia moving uniform and faster than single libraries to e-only due to: • Users’ needs (FinELib Survey, 2007) • Well-developed digital infrastructure • Cooperation enhances required skills and expertise • Publishers licensing models: • Some e-packages proposed as e-only unique licensing model (ACS, Cell) 10th European ICOLC Fall meeting, Muenchen, 19-22 October, 2008

Space savingsis a key factor in the e-only transition in Europe Staff savingsis not felt as a factor driving the change: more staff needed at central level In general: Librarians more conservative than faculty Digital Preservation a big issue: less concern where DP project are consolidated (Denmark, Holland) Need for National policies on Print Preservation Conclusions 10th European ICOLC Fall meeting, Muenchen, 19-22 October, 2008
