What is POV? Why is point of view important in history?

  • Helps us empathize and understand: puts us in the place of someone who was there

  • Primary source documents are NOT FACTS. They are opinions and reflections of the way a person saw the world.

  • Helps us understand differing opinions on certain events.

  • Authorial POV: Students show how the occupation, gender, class, religion, nationality, political position, ethnicity, etc. influence the author’s POV

  • You can have clues to POV even if you are not totally familiar with the topic they are discussing.
