  2. Introduction • What is a biome? A biome is a unique ecosystem that contains animals and plants.

  3. Climate The location of the Arctic Tundra is in Antarctic and North America. The Tundra is a very windy place and winds can blow up to 30 to 60 miles an hour.

  4. Climate Winter temperatures average 18 F to -8 F summer temperatures range from 37 F to 60 F. only about 6-10 inches of precipitation (mostly snow) fall each year.

  5. Plants • The Tundra biome has a plethora of amazing plants.One of these Plants is the Bear Berry.The Bear Berry grows low to stay out of the Arctic chill .It has fine silky hairs that also keeps it warm .Leathery leaves is also an adaption to the Bear Berry

  6. Plants • .Another plant is the Pasque flower .The Pasque flower has several stems that rise 6-8 inches off the ground .The Pasque flower like the Bear Berry also grow close to the ground .Another plant is the Diamond-Leaf Willow

  7. Plants • On the Tundra the Diamond-Leaf Willow is known as the name Sura .Amazingly enough Sura is ten times richer in vitamin C than oranges .It is also rich in vitamin A and calcium .Another amazing plant is the Tufted Saxifrage

  8. Plants • .The Tufted Saxifrage can grow in thick mats on the Arctic Tundra .The Tufted Saxifrage is a small Perennial .It has several straight flower stems which can get 3-15cm high.

  9. Animals •      Many animals make the Tundra their home.  The Caribou lives in theArctic regions.  It is a sturdy animal with short legs.  It's heavycoat keeps it warm during the long cold winters. 

  10. Animals The Musk Ox is anotheranimal that is able to survive in the harsh arctic conditions.  Its24" long hair and wooly undercoat provides insulation.

  11. Animals • The Arctic fox uses his keen smell tolocated animals hiding under the snow.  He uses his sharp claws to dig into the snow and catch his prey or dig an underground burrow to stay warm. 

  12. Animals • The polar bear make look white but his skin is actually black! This means he can absorb the warm sun that helps keep his warm.  His white coat has two layers that keeps him dry and warm, and helps him catch his prey while protect him from predators.
