Protected Resources—Common Cartridge • Common Cartridge materials may be protected and may require an access code • The protected materials can be copied to courses by the instructor • The protected materials cannot be exported from the course by the instructor • Online help at the D2L Community site provides more information—use the search term “protected resources” May 2009 D2L Upgrade to Version 8.4

Respondus Integration with D2L • Respondus 4.0 integrates directly with D2L • Requires Two Things: • Respondus Integration Pack applied to each D2L site (late June 2009) • End user needs to upgrade to Respondus 4.0 (late June 2009) • Integration Pack is separate from the upgrade and separate from a maintenance release • System Site Administrators will test a few sites in QA beginning soon (end of May) • System Site Administrators will provide the Respondus 4.0 installation file at the MnSite course for Site Admins and Trainers later in June 2009—please distribute to your technical staff and your faculty • We will take the Respondus integration pack to all D2L sites in Production later in June 2009 May 2009 D2L Upgrade to Version 8.4

Plagiarism Detection--TurnItIn • Only for schools that have TurnItIn license • TurnItIn is directly integrated with Dropbox • Must be turned on at the school • Can be set at the Course or Department level • Instructor chooses from these options: • All files are submitted to TurnItIn • Only files selected by instructor are submitted May 2009 D2L Upgrade to Version 8.4

  19. Plagiarism Detection File Types • Originality Reports can be generated only on these file types: • Word • WordPerfect • Plain Text • RTF • Postscript • PDF May 2009 D2L Upgrade to Version 8.4

Plagiarism Detection Interface • After file is submitted to dropbox, it is sent to TurnItIn automatically or by instructor* • Initially displays as In Progress • Report is displayed in column in Dropbox • Instructor can click on the Report icon to view detailed report * Dependent on instructor’s setting—all files go to TurnItIn, or only those selected by instructor May 2009 D2L Upgrade to Version 8.4

  21. Plagiarism Detection Settings Instructor chooses: • To generate originality reports • whether student can see originality report • whether all files are submitted, ORonly individual files selected by instructor are submitted May 2009 D2L Upgrade to Version 8.4

Plagiarism Detection and Markup Help • Online help on Desire2Learn Community Site has documentation for instructors • If you do not see the settings in the dropbox, contact your campus site administrator to see if the tool is turned on at your school • If your school’s license is limited, the department(s) or course(s) need to be set up in the DOME by the campus site admin May 2009 D2L Upgrade to Version 8.4

Testing in QA • Test environment is a copy of Production as of mid-April • Available only to instructors and technical staff (trainers, instructional designers) • Keep in mind that since it’s copy of Production, any Intelligent Agents you set up in QA will run and send messages to students who have not logged in to QA • Explore the tool with that in mind • QA environment is always off limits to students May 2009 D2L Upgrade to Version 8.4

  26. Perform Tests in QA • Test your course materials and D2L tools in QA • Report any problems via helpdesk ticket at http://d2l.custhelp.com • For Problem field, if you can’t find 8.4 QA Testing, select Other/Misc. Faculty • Provide details including the name of the course you were in when the problem occurred May 2009 D2L Upgrade to Version 8.4

  27. D2L Update Schedule • April 17---8.4 to QA • April 17-May 20 • Testing version 8.4 in QA • May 21---8.4 MR1 to QA • May 21-28 • Testing 8.4 MR1 in QA • May 29-30 (10 PM Friday to Noon** Saturday) • Take 8.4 or 8.4 MR1 to Production (pending test results) **estimate—post-upgrade testing may take longer May 2009 D2L Upgrade to Version 8.4
