  1. Project: IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: [TG3-Draft-Standard-Monterey-Report] Date Submitted: [19 January 2001] Source: [James P. K. Gilb] Company [Mobilian] Address [11031 Via Frontera, Suite C, San Diego, CA 92127] Voice:[1-858-451-3438], FAX: [1-858-451-3546], E-Mail:[gilb@ieee.org] Re: [] Abstract: [A summary of the work accomplished for the draft standard during the Monterey interim meeting.] Purpose: [Document the work accomplished for the draft standard.] Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P802.15. It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). The material in this document is subject to change in form and content after further study. The contributor(s) reserve(s) the right to add, amend or withdraw material contained herein. 2. PHY Decisions Reached • Approved minutes from previous conference calls • Selected 8-state TCM P802.15-01/024r1 • for higher rate modulations (33, 44, and 55 Mb/s) • Determined error rate criterion • Results in document P802.15-01/027r1 • Intermodulation • Tabled, may not be specified in the standard • Modulation accuracy • Wayne Music and Mohammed Nafie will present draft by next conference call James P. K. Gilb, Mobilian

  3. PHY Decisions reached (cont.) • Reference sensitivity • Jeyhan will provide input by next call • Agreed to header format • In this document, will be transferred to the overview • Developed long list of issues to be resolved. • Next conference call, 25 January, 2001 James P. K. Gilb, Mobilian

  4. Draft Standard Report • Acronyms and definitions • Chapters will be sent out early for review • Register acronyms with Gilb (gilb@ieee.org) • Submit definitions or request for definitions to Gilb • Covered draft standard assignments • document P802.15-00/407r1 • Resolution management tools • The editors will use a database to manage issues and comments James P. K. Gilb, Mobilian

  5. Draft Standard Report (cont) • Defined procedure for submission of chapters and other material • Frame 6.0 preferred, RTF next, Word least • Send documents to Gilb when finished • Once converted to Frame, will remain in frame • Submit changes with change bars enabled • Or use Acrobat to put notes in the PDF • Clauses will be named, not numbered • for Frame file names, submissions can have any name • Generated 2 new acronyms (FLCA, LFULA) James P. K. Gilb, Mobilian

  6. Agenda James P. K. Gilb, Mobilian

  7. Agenda for 18 January 2001 • Approve/modify PHY committee conference call minutes (P802.15-00/247r18) • Acronyms and definitions • Header format (MAC/PHY/PLME/PMD/MOUSE) • Physical observables (i.e. all items must be measurable) • Assignments (document P802.15-00/407r1) • Resolution management tools • Spreadsheet input • Database for core editor team to manage James P. K. Gilb, Mobilian

  8. Acronyms/Definitions • All sub-editors and contributors must register acronyms to JPKG to prevent overloading • Most TLA´s are already used, suggest using FLCA´s (Four Letter Count Acronyms) or LFULA´s (Length Five Unique Letter Acronyms) • All members can and should suggest definitions for terms. If you don't understand it, likely others will not understand it either. James P. K. Gilb, Mobilian

  9. Header Format MAC Header Frame Body FCS Add PLCP based on MAC information PLCP Header MAC Header Frame Body FCS Calculate HCS (Header Check Sequence) PLCP Header MAC Header HCS Frame Body FCS FEC protect header PLCP Header + MAC Header + HCS Frame Body FCS Add PLCP preamble Preamble PLCP Header + MAC Header + HCS Frame Body FCS Modulate OQPSK at 11 Msymbols/s Modulate at desired rate (22, 33, 44 or 55 Mb/s) Modulate Preamble PLCP Header + MAC Header + HCS Frame Body FCS James P. K. Gilb, Mobilian

  10. Physical Observables • All normative items in the standard need to be measurable at one of five locations: • At the MAC to LLC interface • At the MLME to SME interface • At the PLME to SME inteface • At the PHY-SAP interface • At the antenna or antenna connector • Need to avoid specifying implementations wherever possible, behaviors are preferred. James P. K. Gilb, Mobilian

  11. Procedure for Submissions • Framemaker is preferred • Leave line numbers on in Frame document • Once a clause is changed to Frame, the original document should note that it is the last revision and future revisions are done in frame • For Word, export as RTF first • For corrections, leave change bars on to note differences from the previous revision • Make sure to accept all previous revisions before adding new ones James P. K. Gilb, Mobilian

  12. Hilton Head Agenda • Sunday afternoon available • Monday (4 hrs morning, 2 hrs afternoon, 3 hrs evening) • Draft standard issue resolution presentation • Clause review • Summarize clause, comments taken later • Clause resolution • Monday afternoon - vote to accept baseline draft • as published 1 week prior with notations • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday morning, - Clause work sessions James P. K. Gilb, Mobilian
