Standards Page 1 Identify legislative or industry standards that may influence accessibility in a web context The standards or legislation describe how to make web content more accessible to users with disabilities. Web "content" usually applies to the information in a web page or web application, including text, images, forms, sounds, and such

  3. Standards Page 2 There are 12 guidelines that represent the standards and they have been organised under 4 principles which are:

  4. Vision Impaired Websites that are designed using valid HTML Websites that use text equivalents for all images Websites that have descriptive Titles for every page

  5. Hearing Impaired Websites that clearly show the size of all video files Websites that use a textual captioning indicator instead of an image or icon Websites that apply captioning and contain a notice to inform

  6. Physically Disabled Websites that flash less than every 3 seconds Websites with no noticeable screen flickering Websites that are non scrolling

Further discussion of Vision Impairment The 3 main vision impairments are: Total Blindness – Where the user is fully blind and can see nothing Partial Blindness – Where the user only has limited sight in either one or both eyes or is fully blind in just one eye Colour Blindness – Where the user either can’t see colours at all or can’t perceive colour differences under normal lighting conditions
