  2. Sense • “Skirting a ball of dust that road the floor” • “Path between the wainscot and the door” • Emphasize the layer of dust that waxes the floor • Reminds the reader about the dirty and disgusting area behind their own door giving the reader a clear sense of what it is

  3. Imagery • These words giant, pace, scratch and jog creates a image in the readers mind. • “A path between the wainscot and the door” line 4.

  4. Figurative Language • The whole poem is a metaphor about his life. It all reflects his life. • It could suggest his aging

  5. Tone The speaker’s tone was very calm as he was simply describing the cockroach's actions without much opinion. •The negative conjectures he madeHinting that the speaker is quite gloomy or pessimistic. •Victim of mild attack •Payment for vicious crime •Connotation of old age
