  1. Professor Jean-Jacques BONNET at the Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse. Ex-director of the LCC and of the SFTCM (till January 2007). I have been asked by the UPS and the CNRS (regional delegation) to enhance the international collaborations of the community of chemists of Toulouse, using tools already available and well adapted for the type of collaboration foreseen. Some experiences and success in developing well structured collaborations with Poland (Lodz), Spain (Barcelona), Morocco (Fes, Ifrane, Marrakech and Rabat) may explain the confidence put on me… Kiyv 12/12/2007

  4. History about the scientific collaboration in molecularchemistry between Taras Chevtchenko University of Kiev and Paul Sabatier University of Toulouse The collaboration started in 1995 with several individual initiatives, encouraged by the University Paul Sabatier trough its international affair service. Such collaborations are still alive and productive: Between 2000 and 2007 : • 30 common papers on international journals • 39 join papers communications during international meetings • 2 “co-tutelle” thesis on a common research project supervised by two • supervisors already done • 1 “co-tutelle” thesis on a common research project has just started • 2 Ukrainian students making their master degree in Toulouse Kiyv 12/12/2007

  5. Rector Viktor Skopenko, a well known chemist, pushes forward this collaboration, deciding, with the agreement of the French part, that a workshop will be organised each two years to allow people from both side to learn more about their colleagues. (Official trip at Toulouse in 2000) • The 1st worshop has been organised in Kyiv in 2001 • The 2nd one has been organised in Toulouse in 2003 • The 3rd one has been organised in Kyiv in 2005 • The 4th one has been organised in Toulouse last June 2007. In 2005, both communities whished to interact more deeply, for a mutualbenefit, and started to speak about creating a structure without walls in which both parties will find interesting opportunities to develop their collaborations. The LIA (Laboratoire International Associé), structure under the responsibility of the CNRS, corresponds to such a wish. Kiyv 12/12/2007

  6. Ukrainian and French chemists wrote 27 join, original scientific projects, using their own skills. An overall project showing the added values of these common, jointly-defined projects has then been written and has been submitted : to the French part (Direction scientifique du CNRS) last two weeks, to the Ukrinian part (Rector V. Skopenko and Y. Volovenko, head of the chemistry department of Taras Chevtchenko University ) on Monday 11 December. The LIA “Laboratoire Franco-Ukrainien en Chimie Moléculaire” is ready to start in January 2008… Kiyv 12/12/2007

  7. Three main topics have been selected for this associated laboratory : Chemistry and health Chemistry and nanoscience/nanotechnology Chemistry and suistenable development they corresponds to the real skills in both parts; skills which, indeed are complementary ones, as one can see through the already written projects: real mutual benefit is thus expected. they fit well with some of the 10 main priorities of the fp7 , the European research program; they go well with the needs of our societies… Features which are for me convincing ones for “a priori” fruitful collaborations.
