Uranus. Loren, Ashley, and Matthew. How did Uranus get its name?. Well, Sir William Herschel found Uranus on March 13, 1781. Herschel wanted to name the planet Georgium Sidu. (George’s Star) But Johann Elert Bode decided to name it the Latinized version of the Greek god of the sky, Ouranus.

  2. How did Uranus get its name? • Well, Sir William Herschel found Uranus on March 13, 1781. Herschel wanted to name the planet Georgium Sidu. (George’s Star) But Johann Elert Bode decided to name it the Latinized version of the Greek god of the sky, Ouranus.

  3. Facts You Might Not Know About Uranus • Uranus, and Neptune, are both known as Ice Giants because it’s made up of rocks and various types of ice. • It takes Uranus 30,685 Earth days to complete an orbit around the sun.

What’s It Made Of? • Uranus is different from gas giants such as Jupiter and Saturn because they are both made up of helium and hydrogen, while Uranus is composed mostly of various ices like methane. • It’s believed that this planet has three different layers inside it. The rocky core in its center, the icy mantle that surrounds it, and the outer gas layer made of helium and hydrogen. The icy mantle is the largest layer of Uranus.
