Pompeii was a Roman town almost 2000 years ago(August 24, A.D. 79). Pompeii was destroyed by a volcano called Mount Vesuvius. People were rushing out of their houses to see what was happening. Smoke and fire were coming from the volcano. The sky was thick with ash and turning day into night. Over the next 18 hours poisonous gases filled the air the town was completely burned .
