  1. Spider Beat

  2. Little Miss Muffet Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet, Eating her curds and whey; (mmm) Along came a spider and sat down beside her, And frightened Miss Muffet away. (Eek!) Pat the steady beat of the words as the spider jumps!

  3. Vocabulary Did you know… • That over 400 years ago doctors thought that swallowing spiders would help sick people get better? Eek! • Tuffet: a three-legged stool, or grassy bump big enough to sit on. • Curds: the lumpy part of cottage cheese. • Whey: the milky part of cottage cheese.

  4. Song: Little Spider Little Spider spins all day, Spins while all the others play. Then the web is fin’lly done, Shining in the morning sun. Listen to this song while the spider jumps on you on the beat.

  5. Song: Little Spider

  6. Song: Little Spider • How many times did the spider jump? • How many webs are there?

  7. Song: Little Spider • Jump your spider on the words. • Which web had one spider on it? Which beat had only one jump on it? The spiders are the rhythm, the webs are the beat! Is the rhythm of each line the same?

  8. Listening: Spider’s Web Follow along with the song; make your little spider crawl up your arm as the pitch moves upward. Let’s sing ‘”Little Spider” one more time!

  9. The Itsy Bitsy Spider The itsy bitsy spider climbed up a water spout, Down came the rain and washed the spider out. Up came the sun and dried up all the rain, And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again.
