A Unique Program

  • The only interdisciplinary program at the University that also spans two colleges

  • Support from two program Co-Directors, an Environmental Science Program Assistant, over nine departments, and two colleges!


The plan of study

Basic Science Requirements:

  • Agriculture & Resource Economics course

  • Biology Sequence

  • Chemistry Sequence

  • Math/Calculus Sequence

  • Physics Sequence

  • Statistics course


Introductory Environmental Science(Two of the following courses):

  • Introduction to Oceanography

  • Environmental Science

  • Earth & Life Through Time (Introductory Geology)

  • Introduction to Physical Geography


Upper-Level

Environmental Science:

  • Environmental Health

  • General Ecology

  • Earth Surface Processes

  • The Hydrosphere

  • Meteorology


Capstone Course:

  • Environmental Evaluation & Assessment

    Concentration:

  • 5 - 6 additional courses in a concentration to be declared by your Junior year.

Mentor program
Mentor Program

  • New program launched during the Fall ’06 semester

  • Incoming freshman paired with a sophomore or junior in the program

  • Relationship as defined by the mentor-”mentee” pair

  • Goal: To support new students during the transition from high school to college

A Word from Our Graduates…

Based on a survey polling graduates from 1996-2003…

  • 94% of our graduates left UConn with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • On a 1-10 scale the average graduate expressed a satisfaction level of 8.1 with the overall quality of instruction in those courses required for the major.

  • 89% of our graduates felt that their advisors were there when they needed them

  • The majority of our graduates are currently employed in a field relating to Environmental Science, including:

  • USGS

  • Local and regional health agencies

  • National Park Service

  • Environmental Education

  • Private Laboratories

  • Environmental Protection Agency

  • USDA and Cooperative Extension Services

  • DEP
