Best practices and pitfalls? • Competence • Ensure when choosing a forwarding agent to file the AES on your behalf that they have knowledge of compliance and have an established export compliance program. • Record Retention • Ensure the forwarding agents’ operating system in which they file the AES has the record retention ability as set forth by the appropriate governing agencies. • Audits • Work with the forwarding agent to conduct internal audits within your organization as well as theirs. Forwarder should provide reports so you can audit the AES transmission to ensure data entry integrity. • Communication • Once you have chosen your forwarder, conduct an implementation meeting. Educate your forwarder in your product line. Do you ship USML or CCL items? This is most important for license maintenance and the AES filing.
