RPCs as “luminosity monitor” • Exploit the strong linear correlation between the RPC rate and the instantaneous luminosity:rate = a * lumi + b (1) • Fitting (1)  calibration with the 2011 HF lumi values  allows to determine the “RPC luminosity” as: RPC_lumi= (rate – b)/a (2) 5 • We can calculate the 2012 lumi with the same coefficients of the 2011 linear fit • Slope not affected by high PU, 8TeV vs. 7TeV, reduced β* , etc. • Good estimate of the 2012 luminosity
