  3. SICK LEAVE • Faculty members who work at least 50% time earn sick leave and are required to use it when they are absent for qualifying reasons during a normal workday for university employees. • Faculty members accrue sick leave at the rate of 8 hours per month or if not 100% -based on the percentage of time worked.

  5. Sick Leave ABSENSES QUALIFYING FOR SICK LEAVE • 4.1 Sick leave may be taken when sickness, injury, or pregnancy and confinement prevent the employee from doing his or her job or when an ill member of the employee's immediate family needs the employee’s care and assistance . • “Immediate family” is defined as those individuals living in the same household and related by kinship, adoption, or marriage; foster children certified by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services; or a child for whom the employee is the court-appointed guardian.

  6. Sick Leave ABSENSES QUALIFYING FOR SICK LEAVE • An employee’s minor child is considered immediate family even if the child does not live in the employee’s household. • “Pregnancy and confinement” is defined as a temporary disability caused or contributed to by pregnancy, miscarriage, abortion, childbirth and recovery there from.

  7. Sick Leave • When an employee is absent from work for more than three continuous days due to his or her or a family member's medical condition, the employee must provide a physician's statement that indicates the cause or nature of the illness and the estimated recovery date • Physicians' statements will be filed in a confidential medical file, separate from the employee's personnel file.

  8. Sick Leave • Employees should be granted sick leave when their requests are for qualifying reasons. • However, if medical certification is required but not provided, the time off should be reclassified as vacation, compensatory time or leave without pay.

  9. Upon Termination of Employment SICK LEAVE • An employee who retires under the Teacher Retirement System may be eligible to purchase membership service credit for accumulated sick leave. • Balance may be transferred to another state agency or • Donated to sick pool • Upon the death of an active employee, the estate is entitled to be paid for one-half of the balance of the employee’s sick leave, not to exceed 336 hours.

  10. VACATION • Faculty on 12-month appointments, September 1 through August 31, are eligible for vacation. • Those appointed for less than 12 months are not eligible for vacation, even if they are employed for additional work during the summer, resulting in 12 months of work. • Vacation accrual rates are based on an employee’s years of service with the state of Texas

  11. Upon Termination VACATION • Accumulated vacation can be used as: • extended vacation, or • lump sum payout

  20. ROLES- • This screen is seen only in the “MANAGER” ROLE: • When an employee submits a leave request go to your “Inbox” to approve or reject • Take action on request within the month • Set up a “Delegate” to approve leave in your absence • Print reports
