Situational Analysis • A large number of sexually violent (SV) attacks go unreported making it a “silent epidemic”. • Providing a clear definition of SV is necessary for a victim to report an attack. • Retaliation, shame, and disbelief by others are the main reasons why accidents go unreported. • SV can cause long-term health damage such as pregnancy, STD’s, and depression.

  3. Core Problem/Opportunity Too many SV attacks go unreported. The opportunity is to help SE students recognize and report SV in an effort to prevent future attacks.

  4. Research • 20% of women in the US have been raped at sometime in their lives. • 1 out of 71 men in the US have been raped at sometime in their lives. • For young women the most common place for SV crimes to occur is school. • 81% of women who experience rape have long-term and/or short-term effects. • More than 95% of students who are sexually assaulted remain silent.

  6. Target Audience Primary • Student Union • Resident Halls • Sporting Events • Organizational Events • Traffic in the “U” SE Freshman and students 18 to 20 years old.

  7. Target Audience Secondary • Professors • Academic Affairs • Organization Leaders • Resident Advisors • Local Business Owners All SE students, faculty and staff.

  8. Goal To raise the number of reported sexual violent crimes on SE’s campus.

  9. Objectives • To define what sexual violence is to the SE community • To educate and raise awareness on how to report SV crimes on the SE campus. • To raise the number of reported SV crimes by 5% in one school year.

Strategies and Tactics Raise SV awareness and its harms ~Radio PSA 3 times a week on campus radio station ~ Newspaper ad ran in the Southeastern ~ Webpage added to the SE website with contact information, helpful hints to prevent and what to do after a SV attack ~ Post fliers on campus to promote our FB page and event. ~ Post fliers in local businesses to raise awareness in our community.

Strategies and Tactics Raise awareness about the importance of SV attack reporting ~ SV event on October 24th • What: to promote the dangers, resources and awareness about SV to the SE community • Who: all SE students, faculty and staff • Where: Student Union Plaza • When: October 24th from 4-7 p.m. • Why: encourage students to get involved and stand up against SV • Appearances by: Susie Fry, DJ - Sergio Lopez and Miss Southeastern, Haley Ellison

  19. The Booths Booth 1- students are asked questions about SV and the dangers…. If they answer 5 correct they win a t-shirt Booth 2- laptops are set up with devotionals playing from victims of SV. Students receive a free soda after viewing a video and providing feedback. Booth 3- students use sidewalk chalk to write their own message about SV on the side walk. Students receive free popcorn after writing a message.
