  1. Steering Committee #3 (3/12/13) Jennifer Schilling, NU Jonathan Raab, Facilitator Grid Modernization Taxonomy/Functionality Discussion

  2. Documents • Grid Mod Functionality Matrix • Grid Mod Functionality Definitions • Grid Mod Functionality Framing Slides

  3. Steering Committee Discussion Questions • Should “grid modernization” be more narrowly defined (e.g., only on how to enable distribution system automation, distributed resource integration, & demand optimization) or more all-encompassing (e.g., to also include on-going system hardening, workforce management, & equipment replacement)? • Do the functionality “buckets” and the “enablers” under each bucket seem logical and reasonably complete?

  4. Steering Committee Discussion Questions (continued) 3. Is the functionality/enablers and their definitions sufficient by themselves, or should they be cross-tabbed against grid mod goals, opportunities, or something else (see left column in matrix)? 4. If the matrix is to be filled out, what’s the most reasonable and efficient way to do so (see two rows filled out by work group in matrix)?

  5. Footnotes to Functionality Matrix • Distributed Resource Integration--Applies to DG, CHP, storage, electric vehicles, etc. • Safety & security are important requirements throughout but not functionality per se • Communication interoperability is also important consideration but not fucntionality per se

  6. Footnotes to Functionality Matrix (continued) • See other Metering spreadsheet on detailed functionality for metering • System Hardening, Workforce Mgt, and Equipment Replacement Columns are core utility functions--Should they be included in this spreadsheet on Grid Mod? • ADD --System Stability as row (e.g., goal) or comment • Note: This is functionality at this time, could evolve over time w/new technology etc.
