  22. alternative P.E. CREDIT Starting in the fall of 2011, any freshman, sophomore, and/or junior student who successfully completes an IHSAA approved sport can earn her/his Physical Education I and II credit requirements through this program.

  23. alternative P.E. CREDIT • Students will complete 3 components to earn each P.E. credit: • Coach/Activity Form (70%) • Physical Education Standards Journal (20%) • Five-Day Exercise, Nutrition, Sleep, & Wellness Log (10%)

  24. alternative P.E. CREDIT • Coach/Activity Form (70% of final grade) - Indicates successful completion of the season and sportsmanship rating • Successful completion = participating in at least 91% of the season. 9% could be missed for any reason (illness, family emergency, etc.) • Student must be in good standing throughout the season and not received any LSSC athletic code violations or suspensions • If severe injury occurs, student must participate in 80% of the season – situations evaluated on an individual basis

  25. alternative P.E. CREDIT • P.E. Standards Journal (20% of final grade) • Student-athlete shall document a minimum of one example for each standard illustrating their attainment of each standard. • This reflective journal is based on the Indiana State Standards for Physical Education and how the student-athlete’s sport/activity met the requirements. • Proper writing mechanics and relationship to the topic are required.

CREDIT • Five-Day Log (10% of final grade) • Students must write two goals during each athletic season • 1 EXERCISE GOAL • 1 NUTRITION GOAL • Students must record physical activity (include intensity and duration),nutrition, and sleep for 5 consecutive days. • Students must answer reflective questions that go with the log.

  27. alternative P.E. CREDIT • Procedures to declare intent to participate in this program • Complete an intent form when you schedule your coursework prior to the semester of participation – completing and returning this form is the student’s responsibility. • If a student turns in an intent form, but does not participate in one of the approved activities, there is NO PENALTY of withdraw failure (WF). The student just wouldn’t earn the credit through this program and would need to enroll in the P.E. class.

  28. alternative P.E. CREDIT • Grading Policy • Grades will be determined by a rubric based on all three components • Coach’s Form (70% of grade) • P.E. Standards Journal (20% of grade) • Five –Day Log (10% of grade) • The three components will equal a possible 100 points and a letter grade will be awarded based on the LSHS grading scale. • This alternative credit program does not count as one of the approved courses to be eligible for IHSAA sports.

  29. alternative to health and wellness • According to IN Law, three (3) credits from the following Family and Consumer Science Courses can replace the Health and Wellness credit requirement • Interpersonal Relationships (Any grade level) • Nutrition and Wellness (Any grade level) • Preparing for College and Careers (Preferred in 9th) • Child Development and Parenting (10th-12th) • Human Development and Family Wellness (NOT OFFERED)

Leadership in Student Organizations • Class Officer Elections • Held in the spring of each year • President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer • Requirements to Hold Offices • Students running for Student Council or Class Office must have and maintain 2.5 GPA or better for the previous academic semester. • If this GPA is not maintained, officer will be declared ineligible. • Students will not be allowed to run for office and may be removed from office should they be suspended from school or have substantial disciplinary incidents.

  35. athletics • IHSAA Rule 18-1: To be eligible scholastically, students must have received passing grades and earned credit at the end of their last grading period in school in at least (70%) of the maximum number of full credit subjects… • NOTE: You have a clean slate when you begin high school. • On a six period day, you must pass 5 of your 6 classes. • On a seven period day, you must pass 5 of your 7 classes • Same requirements for Work Permit until you are 18 • TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
