  3. The Eifel Tower is in the Grand Canyon? • NO, silly….it’s just shown here to give you an indicator of how wide, and high the Canyon actually is!

  4. Canyon Layers • Although the rocks may look the same, the canyon is made up of many different layers much like a cake. • The next slide lists the different rocks in 2 sections of the canyon

  5. North Canyon & Nankoweap Layers • 4 Muav Limestone • 5 Redwall Limestone • 6 Supai Sandstone • 7 Hermit Shale • 8 Coconino Sandstone • 9 Toroweap Limestone • 10 Kaibab Limestone

  6. Sand • Just as there are different types of rocks, there are different types of sand particles. We will be discussing these particles as we go on.

  7. SAND TYPES • Dune – Frosted Particles well sorted. Moved by wind Mountain Stream – Sand close to source of origin. Many different sizes/grains

  8. Beach – Particles w/ rounded edges. Moved by water
