What is OXE and why pledge? • Omega Chi Epsilon (OXE) is the National Chemical Engineering Honor Society • OXE’s Mission: • Recognition – Recognize Excellence in ChE • Investigation – Promote Original Investigation in ChE • Service – Provide Service to ChE Dept. and Community • Comradeship – Promote Comradeship among ChE • Professionalism – Promote Honesty, Integrity, and Social Responsibility: the Hallmarks of Professional Ethics

  11. To Become a Member • Top 1/5 of Junior or 1/5 Senior Class • Completed CHE 317 prior to pledging • Complete a semester long pledge process

  12. Pledge Requirements • Fill out intent to pledge form • Pay dues of $50 • Attend all meetings • 2 service events • 3 social events • Office hours (2hrs/week) • 1 fireside chat • Research inquiries • Attend induction ceremony

  13. Office Hours • Be in the OXE room and available to tutor • Sell Snacks and Drinks • Stock the Fridge • Can do your own HW when not tutoring… …or hang out with “friends”

  14. Service Events • Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day • Feb. 21st (next Sunday! 2-5 PM) • Austin Kite Festival • March 1st (Sunday) • Explore UT! • March 7th (Saturday) • Burger Plate • TBD

  15. Social Events • Social Events: • Amy’s Ice Cream – This Sunday at 4 pm • Easy social to knock out • Free ice cream • Happy Hours • America’s favorite past time • Putt-Putt • Yeah, whatever Tiger Woods • Laser Tag • “Dude, totally dominating little kids has never been so much fun…” • Karaoke • Simon Cowell, eat your heart out

  16. Faculty Firesides & Research Inquiries • Visit with selected ChE Professors at their homes and talk to them about engineering, life, careers, etc. • Select a Professor to talk to about their current research; give a short overview to the group
