  1. Sermon Part 1

  2. Showing Love to God by Connecting to His Word Reading, Memorizing, and Meditation Psalm 119:8-16 Page 957

  3. This Series: • The point is to remind us that our relationship with Jesus is enhanced when we invest in that relationship.

  4. An Active Relationship • Because we desire to mature what are some actions that can aid in that transformation? • Bible Reading, Bible Study, Memorization, Meditation, Prayer, Giving, Fellowship and a host of other actions help prepare us to be people of Worship individually and as a congregation.

  5. How Much, How Often? • How is God’s word getting into me, where does it go once it is inside and do I desire to spend time with God’s word? • When we love God through being in His word, and making room for His word to be in us, we bring that expectation of meeting with God to congregational worship. • Without a connection through the week our worship can become self centered, ritual, and weak.

  6. Romans 10:17 Page 1761 • Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

  7. Psalm 119:9-16 Page 957 • How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. 10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. 12 Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees. 13 With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. 14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. 15 I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. 16 I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

  8. M and M’s • Memorization • Meditation

  9. Heart and Mind • “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD, "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” • Jeremiah 31:33 quoted in Hebrews 8:10 on Page 1870.

  10. In Your Life • Currently, how does your connection with God’s word through the week impact your connection to God in congregational worship? • What changes could you make through the week to make congregational worship more impactful?

  11. Sermon Part 2

  12. Time With God: • How are you spending time focused on God and His word? • What works for you? • Do you enjoy time with God and do you miss it when other things take over? • How it works for me.

  13. Learning From Others: • I read of people who enjoyed time with God. • I see this commitment to be with God and to connect to Him whenever and however in the life of Abraham, David, Daniel, Saul, and Jesus. • I do not see them counting the minutes for their reading time and prayer time. • I do not see them making it look just one way.

  14. Luke 5:16 Page 1598 Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. OFTEN Morning (Mark 1:35), Evening (Matthew 14:23), Feeding the 5000 (Mark 6:46). WITHDREW PRAYED Matthew 4:4

  15. Romans 12:9-13 Page 1764 • 9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual ferver, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

  16. The Two Part Challenge! #1 Prayer is communication so the challenge is to take time to listen to God. God speaks to me by prompting my heart and mind. I am often more convicted, corrected, and led to clarity through listening than talking.

  17. Two Part Challenge: #2 Speak to God relationally and ask questions by digging deeper within yourself. God knows what is going on in your life so talk to him about how it impacts you, confuses you, challenges you, leads you to praise…etc rather than using the time to inform Him.

  18. In Your Life How is your congregational worship impacted by choosing to spend time with God through the week, listening during prayer, and sharing with God the reality of your life while asking for His direction? Where do you have the most room to grow in these aspects so that “___________often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” is true of you.

  19. Sermon Part 3

  20. In Our Congregation: • We practice a free will offering not setting a specific amount or percentage. • We do encourage people to pledge an amount and commit a portion of their finances to the work of the Church. • As we mature our financial commitment should shows signs of maturity as well. • Because God is generous to us we are generous towards God and others.

  21. God called His people to give the first part of their crop to Him not offer a part of the harvest to Him once it has all come in. • First fruits shows surrender and dependence on God so our offering should be the first part of our income that is set aside for God’s glory. • Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.Proverbs 3:9-10

  22. Being a Giver • According to 2 Corinthians 8-9 we are to: • • GIVE SACRIFICIALLY. 2 Corinthians 8:3-4 Page 1801. • • GIVE WILLINGLY. • 2 Corinthians 8:12 • GIVE GENEROUSLY. • 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 • GIVE CHEERFULLY. • 2 Corinthians 9:7

  23. Kingdom Focus • How does viewing finances and social connections with a kingdom focus impact your congregational worship?

  24. My Perspective • God brings people to himself through people. • Relationships change through time and people come into and out of our lives for a reason, season, and lifetime. • Fellowship is where these two aspects intersect if we see relationships as opportunities to invite people into deeper fellowship with God.

  25. Ask The Questions! • Who has God placed in your life right now? • What is their relationship with God, His word, and other believers? • God wants us to ask these kinds of questions.

  26. God’s Protection • We know that Satan wants us to be isolated, or feel isolated, and that God provides protection by calling us to be a part of each others lives. • We need one another and to have room to add more people into our fellowship.

  27. One Another Passages • Serve one another Galatians 5:13 • Accept one another Romans 15:7 • Forgive one another Colossians 3:13 • Greet one another Romans 16:16 • Bear one another’s burdens Galatians 6:2 • Be devoted to one another Romans 12:10 • Honor one another Romans 12:10 • Teach one another Romans 15:14 • Submit to one another Ephesians 5:21 • Encourage one another 1 Thessalonians 5:11

  28. Three Types of Church Meetings • Large Group • Small Group • Informal

  29. God is Worthy • Worship is connected to the word “worthy” and God is worthy of the effort that we make to develop a relationship with him by connecting our desire with actions. • Bible Reading, Bible Study, Memorization, Meditation, Prayer, Giving, Fellowship and a host of other actions help prepare us to be people of Worshipindividually and as a congregation. • The statement “I do not get much out of worship” is often due an immature mindset and a poor relationship with God through the week. • Consider the health of your relationship with God and it’s eternal impact.

  30. God is Worthy • How prepared are you to worship God when we gather together and what changes could you make during the week to impact your readiness to come and to give honor to God? • Next Series: “I Am Not Ashamed” Romans 1-8
