Female Reproductive System

  • Functions-

  • Reproduction

  • Production of Eggs

    - through ovulation

  • Production of female

    sex hormone

    - oestrogen

    - Progesterone

    - Estrogen

Structures

Structures

  • Ovaries

    • female gonad, in which the ova and the hormones that regulate female secondary sex characteristics develop.

  • Follicles

    • one of the small ovarian sacs containing an immature ovum.

  • Egg

    • Female sex cell

  • Oocyte

    • developing egg

Structures cont

Structures cont.

  • Uterine tubes

    • Moves the ova from the ovaries to the uterus.

  • Uterus

    • Female organ where the fetus develops.

  • Vagina

    • The passage leading from the uterus to the vulva or birth canal.

Estrogen

Estrogen

  • Produced by ovarian follicles

  • Main female sex hormone

  • Stimulates growth of uterus and vagina

  • Egg maturation

  • Menstruation

Male reproductive system

Male Reproductive System

  • Functions-

  • produce sperm in

    testes

  • reproduce

  • production of sex

    hormones

    • testosterone

Structures1

structures

  • Testes

    • Male gonad produces sperm

  • Scrotum

    • Pouch of skin surrounding the testes

  • Sperm

    • Male sex cells

  • Seminiforoustubules

    • Coiled duct within the testes that make and transport sperm

Structures cont1

Structures cont.

  • Epididymis

    • Coiled tubes near the testes where sperm mature

  • Vas deferens

    • Tube that connects the epididymis to the urethra

  • Seminal vesicle

    • Sac at the base of the vas deferens that adds to the seminal fluid

  • Prostate gland

    • Gland at base of bladder that adds to the seminal fluid

Structures cont cont

Structures cont. cont.

  • Interstitial cell

    • Secretes hormones between testes

  • Urethra

    • Tube that carries both urine and semen

  • Cowper’s gland

    • Small organs near the prostate that add to the seminal fluid

  • Penis

    • Male excretory and copulatory organ

Testosterone

Testosterone

  • Male sex hormone

  • Develops sex organs

  • Sperm production

  • Secondary sexual Characteristics

    • Facial hair

    • Deep voice

  • Baldness can also result from testosterone production
