Basic facts and figures • Area: 45 000 sq. km • 1.3 million inhabitants (ca 25% Russians) • Language: Estonian, similar to Finnish • 1500 islands, 1400 lakes • Capital: Tallinn (400 thousand inhabitants, 1/3 of total population) • Bigger cities: Tartu, Narva, Pärnu • Additional information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estonia

  5. Money • Currency is Eesti kroon (EEK) • 1 EUR = 15.6466 EEK, fixed rate • 1-kroon note is missing from the photo : very rare • Supposedly Euro will be the currency from 2011

Public transport • Good bus connections between cities. • Not so good railway connections • Very good ferry connections to Finland (1.5 hours from Tallinn to Helsinki, 80 km) • In Tallinn: bus, tram, trolley. The same ticket can be used everywhere. Tickets can be obtained from kiosks (EEK 15.-) or a driver (EEK 25.-) • Taxi: use only official taxis, negotiate approximate price befor taking a drive. Around EEK 100.- should be enough almost for everything in the city.
