  1. Converting from units to units requires you to “START” with the first part of the problem “OVER !”, and then multiply by a CONVERSION FACTOR. You must take care to make sure your UNITS CANCEL OUT, the conversion factor must be “RIGHT SIDE UP” for the problem. Example: How long is a normal stay in high school? First know an equality, like 1.0 school year = 40 weeks Set up: 4.0 School Years40 weeks 1 1.0 school year 160 weeks in a normal high school career X =

  2. Using the equalities provided, do the conversions you are asked. SHOW YOUR WORK On your next birthday you will be 15, 16, 17, or 18 (circle one). How many days old will you be if 1.0 year = 365 days

  3. Using the equalities provided, do the conversions you are asked. SHOW YOUR WORK Your teacher swam 72 lengths of the pool last night. How many yards did he swim if 1 length = 25 yards

  4. Using the equalities provided, do the conversions you are asked. SHOW YOUR WORK If your teacher swam 1800 yards, how many feet did he swim if 3 feet = 1 yards

  5. Different Fruits have different values to the Fruitarians of the Central American Jungle Zone. Using this set of equalities, using only the one you need, answer this question: If you had 240 apples and wanted to trade them for bananas, how many bananas would you get for those apples? 1.0 bananas = 8.0 apples 3.5 strawberries = 1.2 apples 8.0 strawberries = 18 raisins 5.5 raisins = 3.0 blueberries

  6. You win 64.0 strawberries in a running race. You want to trade them for raisins (which are your favorite). How many raisins can you get? 1.0 bananas = 8.0 apples 3.5 strawberries = 1.2 apples 8.0 strawberries = 18 raisins 5.5 raisins = 3.0 blueberries

  7. It takes 46.8 strawberries to make a tasty jar of strawberry jam (for your bagels!). How many apples are equal to that many strawberries? 1.0 bananas = 8.0 apples 3.5 strawberries = 1.2 apples 8.0 strawberries = 18 raisins 5.5 raisins = 3.0 blueberries

  8. On the next slide are a list of unusual equalities I found on the internet. I am sure that they are all exactly correct (hahahaha). We will accept them as the actual truth for our last question of the day. Choose one equality, make up a word problem that uses that equality, make it silly as you can, and then, SOLVE it properly. Come up with an answer too.

  9. 13.1 Miles = 0.50 Marathons 107 bones = 0.333 Dogs 3.5 Lemons = 2.0 quarts Lemonade 480 Hairs = 1 eyebrow $74 = 1 average month of school lunches 17.0 hours = 2.0 good nights of sleep
