The idea is to thin paint so that the base color shows through. On bricks, the technique is generally referred as ‘whitewash' which basically involves water and paint. Also, brick can be painted or stained with non-diluted base coat and then stresses with sponging technique. Ensure always to clean bricks before you add the color. The formula is pretty different for the exterior bricks as these kinds of bricks are designed to last for decades. Whitewash paint The most attracting aspect of whitewashing in the interior brick is the simplicity of the process. The materials are not expensive and with help of partner, one can transform the entire brick fireplace in a few hours. If this is impossible then remove the cover or mental with taped plastic. Mix equal parts of water and white latex paint and apply paint to the brick as well as grout using a paintbrush. As you continue to work, have a partner to come along behind you and clean the excess paint off with a rag. If you are doing it alone, do one section at a time and clean the excess paint before it dries off. Test the whitewash formula on the inconspicuous area of brick first. You should try a few different shades of light gray or white or try any different ratios of paint to water. Sponge paint To give the brick fireplace look of the natural stone, use a brush and paint roller to apply the base coat of the light gray paint. Once base coat dries out, cut a huge cellulose sponge the similar size of that of the brick. Dampen the sponge with the water to make it flexible, wringing out excess water. Begin from the top of the paint tray and pour a small amount of dark gray paint over the ribbed section of the tray. Lightly set sponge on paint, absorbing a bit and then blot off excess on cardboard or newspaper. Press in sponge against the brick pretty lightly but make use of more pressure if the color is light. Wipe away the mistakes by making use of a damp rag. The actual goal is to vary the look on each of the brick. Exterior brick

  2. An easy and simple whitewash formula for the exterior brick makes use of hydrated lime as well as table salt in a 5-to-1 ratio or 50 pounds of lime to 10 pounds of salt. Mix the ingredients into the water until you get the consistency of a cake batter. Apply whitewash with paint roller or brush. Don’t remove any whitewash until numerous hours have passed or do so the next day. For the extra holding power, mix a small amount of cement into a whitewash. The powdered pigments can be used to tint whitewash with color. The colors, however, can appear different when it is dry, thus, test the color mixtures on the cement board am allow these to dry for some time. Keep the track of the ratio and samples so one can reproduce the color later. Staining technique As with all the techniques, practice staining brick before you apply the technique on the brick wall. Oil based stain, latex stain, and concrete stain can be used to color the brick. The porous surface of the brick allows the color to soak in. one can dilute the latex stain with water but the oil-based satin should definitely be diluted with paint thinner or the turpentine. Oil based stain or the paint latex onto bricks and then wipe these off. When you make use of semi-transparent concrete stain, apply stain and let these dry. Semitransparency allows some of the base color to show through. There are two considerations when making use of stain- you will darken the brick instead of making these lighter and the more coats that you apply, lesser it absorbs. Applying many coats of satin is more like to provide semi-gloss finish instead of a matte finish. Go ahead and make use these ways to give your brick walls unique looks like never before. ^ Ways to Manage Home Loan EMIs during Crisis Leave a Reply Your email address will not be published.
