  3. Duties Provide information to referee. Examples: • When the whole ball has crossed out of the field of play • What team is awarded a throw-in, goal kick or corner kick • When a player should be penalized for an offside offense • When a substitution is requested • Signal for misconduct or other events out of the view of the referee • Indicate goalkeeper encroachment during the taking of a penalty kick • Signal for offenses when the assistant referee has a better view than the referee
