CURRENT PROCESS Faculties and schools are aware of current process: • Notice sent to School 6 weeks in advance • Current form provides for extension or cessation of employment • Form is usually returned as bona fide contract i.e. signed by employee by Head of School and Dean Is the current 6 week timeframe sufficient? Please provide feedback via email to amelvin@admin.uwa.edu.au

  4. CURRENT ISSUES Why is there a need to change the process? • Industrial Risk • Contravention of current advertising policy • Complying with agreements to advise staff so affected

  5. ADVANTAGES OF NEW PROPOSAL.. The new processes aim to: • Reduce/eliminate the risk of employment contract breach • Comply with University policy

  6. NEW PROCESSES“To renew or not renew”…. Non Renewal: Notification of expiry • Requirement within Enterprise Agreement for all contracts under category of • Specific Tasks / Project • Research • Recent Professional Practice Required • Must be in writing • Must be received by staff member one month prior to expiry

  7. TEMPLATES To assist with expiry notices, templates have been developed and are available on our website at: http://www.hr.uwa.edu.au Click on Forms on left hand menu, then select Template Letters

  8. NEW PROCESSES Continued…. Non Renewal: • Complete “Staff Member Leaving UWA Employment Form” • Forward completed & signed form to HR Services at least 2 weeks prior to current expiry date

  9. NEW PROCESS - RENEWAL • If initial appointment was less than 12 months, a renewal can be made without advertisement for a further period not exceeding a total of 12 months • Complete “Recommendation to Offer New Employment Contract” for the further period • Submit to HR Services at least 2 weeks prior to current contract cessation

  10. NEW PROCESS – RENEWAL Cont…. • If initial appointment was 12 months or greater, it must be advertised • Complete “Recommendation to Offer New Employment Contract” for the period covering the advertisement only • Submit to HR Services at least 2 weeks prior to current contract cessation • HR will issue new employment contract (Expiry Notices will no longer be used as an employment contract)
