  3. Session Objectives • To share information • Define the projects • Identify the lead and the team • Project/guess when it’s being rolled out? • To get your comments, suggestions, etc…

  4. The Game Plan • 2 – 3 minutes per project • Time for questions between presentations and at the end. Plan Tracker is a “living” document. Will change as we go along!

  5. MILLS Learning Commons • Complete implementation of the Mills Learning Commons • Leads: Vivian Lewis (Library Implementation Group); University Librarian (Project Review Committee); • “Library Leads Team”: Mary Ruth Linkert, Barbara McDonald, Paul Otto, Anne Plessl Complete by Apr-07

  6. Learning Commons Benchmarks • Construct new physical spaces (Focus this summer on McLay / Tower Entrance) • Implement new services (scanning, etc.) • Propose long-term staffing and governance strategies • Evaluate success

  7. Thode Learning Commons • Begin preliminary planning for the Thode Learning Commons • Leads: Kathy Ball (with assists by Vivian Lewis & Paul Otto) • Team: Thode Reference, Library IT Staff Complete by May-07

  8. Thode Commons • This summer: Establish small pilot facility (20 stations, wiring, ergonomic chairs, etc.) funded by UTS Technology Fund • IT Help: Pilot 10 hours/week this Fall • Next Step: Commission architect to do concept study Winter 2006?

  9. Circulation/Reserve • Participate in testing and implementation of Circulation and Reserve components of Horizon 7.4 • Lead: Access Services Librarian • Team: Circulation Supervisors, Senior Library Assistants Timing depends on release date for 7.4

  10. E-mail Notices • Begin offering e-mail notices to as many patrons as possible • Lead: Access Services Librarian • Team: Circulation Supervisors, Senior Library Assistants and IT Staff Dependent on release of Horizon 7.4 and HIP 4.1

Curriculum planning. 2. How do students learn. Experiential learning. 3. Where do students learn. Classrooms, Technology. 4. Recognition of Teaching. Reward outstanding teaching; promote instructional excellence.

Curriculum Planning Working Group 2005/2006 Initiatives • Determined need to identify current curriculum development practices across campus • Hired an undergraduate student to help create questionnaire, interview questions • Student conducted surveys of all departments / schools and faculties • Currently inputting data using SPSS; data to be analyzed

  30. Proposed Workshops • Services and Collections • The (Mills) Library offers a wide variety of services and collections to help with your research and teaching. Attend this workshop and learn about access to online resources and other library materials; find out about important services such as Interlending and Document Supply, and specialized collections that may be useful to you and your students; get the latest account and contact information. • RefWorks • RefWorks is a web-based citation and bibliographic manager. With your RefWorks account learn how to create your own personal database of citations by importing references for text files, online databases and other sources; generate a correctly formatted bibliography in seconds using formats such as APA, MLA, Chicago and many others including a variety of formats required by special research journals; insert citations while writing papers and automatically format the paper and bibliography.

Steps in 2006/7 • Learn more about using the tablet PC; work with librarians on integrating it into instruction. • Compile a RefWorks database comprising Quick Start Research Guide sources for one course or subject. • Collaborate on improving faculty linking to library e-resources in WebCT, LearnLink and course web pages. • Decide on the future of DOT@MAC.
