  3. 5th Grade Campus Tour Days • WHAT IS TOUR DAY? • The 5th Grade Campus Tour Day is a field trip for fifth graders to be introduced to the idea of college and experience a university campus on a personal level. The tour allows students to explore a variety of activities on campus such as the residence halls, academic buildings, and experience a special class demonstration created just for them taught by UWEC faculty. • Small groups of fifth graders are paired with college mentors (YOU) for the day.  These mentors serve as their guide to the university. • Over 1600 5TH graders will be coming to campus on April 25thand 26th, 2013. SAVE THE DATE!

  8. Common Questions • Q. Can I volunteer only one day or are both days required? • A. Volunteering both days is ideal but one day participation is welcome. Thursdays are typically harder to find volunteers so more help on Thursday, April 25th would be much appreciated. We want as many people to get involved as possible to share their personal paths to higher education, connections to careers, share why education is important etc. • Q. Will I be leading the tour group alone or can I do it with a friend? • A. You can sign up with a friend but depending on how many mentors sign up, we may need to separate to make sure each group has a leader. • What if I can’t be there the whole day? • A. It’s okay! Just find another person to come and stay with the group while you can’t be there. We just have to make sure each group has a mentor at all times.

  9. Common Questions • Q. Am I automatically excused from class if I volunteer? • A. No, this is not a university authorized excuse. You will need to plan ahead and ask your professor permission to miss class. You can take initiative and take a test early or turn in a project early to ensure you will be excused without penalty. • Can I show the kids my dorm room? • A. Only pre-approved dorm rooms can be included on the schedule. If you would like to share your dorm room on the tour, please notify Blugold Beginnings at mentor training.
