Look at your rainbow balancing ladder, the green sheet…

Notice how on the left side there are two elements and on the right side there is only one product

Notice how on the left side there is just one reactant and on the right side there are two elements (products)

Decomposition reaction

Single replacement reaction

Notice how on the each side there are two compounds and that they switch partners.

(A and C switching places… Zn & Al switched spots)

Notice how on the left side there is a Carbon Hydrogen compound and oxygen gas that make carbon dioxide and water.

Products are always just CO2 and H2O.
