  2. What is Multimedia? • The integration of multiple forms of media such as: • Movies, television and video games.

  3. What’s the Problem? • Children’s exposure to mature content in everyday multimedia activities has increased. • Having drastic effects on their lives.

  4. Children Before Multimedia • Their lives consisted mostly of time with family and friends. • Less exposed to mature aspects of everyday life. • Now children spend most of the time with multimedia activities.

  5. The Influence • Who’s influence is more important? • Parent’s or Hollywood’s? • The media can teach children good lessons…and bad ones. VS

  6. Mature Media • What are kid’s witnessing? • Violence, profanity and nudity. • Violence is the most substantial.

  7. Multimedia Violence • Two million acts of violence witnessed on TV by the age of eighteen. • Children’s programing also showing an increase in violence. • Violent kid books and movie trend’s like “The Hunger Games”.

  8. All Cartoons Are OK…Right? • Parent’s think: Children+Cartoons=OK • Children can learn violence from cartoons as easily from adult shows. • Adult cartoon’s like “Family Guy” and “South Park” are plastered with mature content.

  9. Video Games • Children play more than six hours of video games a week. • Have more of a violent impact on kids than TV does. • Children learn more from video games because it is interactive.

  10. The Effects • Children are becoming more fearful. • Greater chance of having aggressive behavior. • Increased symptoms of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress.

  11. Who’s to Blame? • Parents or Guardians • MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America)

  12. The Solution • Increase movie rating system to higher age levels. • Put blocks on TV programs and shows. • Get involved with children’s media choices.

  13. The Future • Children will grow up with their family's morals and values. • Decreased chances of negative medical symptoms. • More of a positive lifestyle. • It all depends on……YOU
