  2. A continent is a large land mass. • There are six continents on Earth: • Africa • Antarctica • Australia • Eurasia • North America • South America Eurasia is the largest continent. Australia is the smallest continent.

  3. A continent can contain one or more countries/regions. There are 54 countries/regions on the continent of Africa.

  5. An island is a body of land smaller than a continent. Madagascar is a very large island.

  7. A peninsula is a piece of land attached on one side that sticks out into a body of water. The U.S. state of Florida is a large peninsula.

  9. An isthmus is a strip of land that connects two larger land masses. Panama is one country/region on the isthmus that connects North America and South America.
