  1. Chandi Pytowski A brief introduction

  2. Who I am • My legal name is Chandra, but I go by Chandi • I’m 20 years old • I’m half Polish, a quarter Italian, and a Quarter Irish • I’m a lifelong New Yorker • I was born in Inwood, raised in Morningside Heights, and currently live in Bushwick • I like surreal art, good prose, chai tea, hard rock music, living in the city, and exploring and adventuring • I don’t like horror movies, bare feet, moderation, or having to pay attention for long periods of time

  3. What I Do • I'm a second semester sophomore at Brooklyn College • I'm planning to major in journalism • I do a lot of art (mostly illustration) and creative writing in my free time • I work as a hostess at a bar in the East Village, and I hate it because I’m an extremely restless person and I have to stand still and stare into space for hours at a time while still looking welcoming and attentive • I just began as a writer/columnist for the New York arts and culture section of an online magazine called Gypsy Generation, which aims to create an all-round platform for and by emerging creative talent and explores creative scenes all around the world and is launching at the end of January

  4. Miscellaneous Facts About Me • I've been a type I diabetic since age two • I live in a 12-person loft apartment that doubles as a communal art studio • I did my first year of college at a small liberal arts school called Hampshire College in rural Massachusetts, but left because I missed city life too much • I took last semester off and moved out to Seattle with my boyfriend just to take a break from school and go somewhere I'd never been before • I have a scar on my tongue from when I tripped and nearly bit it off at age three • In the future, I want to go into magazine journalism • I want to live all over the world but ultimately always come back to New York City

  5. And some more… • I have one tattoo, on my left shoulder blade, of a silhouette opening a dark window with all different colors pouring out. It was drawn by an incredibly inspiring and beloved friend of mine who passed away a few months ago, and I chose that particular drawing to get in memory of him because it supposed to represent hope • I desperately want to start going to more concerts, because I think that seeing live music performances is one of the most fulfilling and meaningful things you can do with your time • I’m very introverted which often gives people a wrong impression, but I’m actually pretty happy and like most people • My mood is usually the best around 3 or 4 a.m. Doing my own writing and reading other people’s writing is the most important thing in the world to me, be it fiction, journalism, or anything in between • I value creativity in all forms, in my own life and in other people, above anything else • Speaking of which…

  6. Artwork Although I am not studying art and do not plan to ever pursue it as a career path, art is one of my greatest passions and I will continue to make art for as long as I live. My art is an enormous part of who I am and I feel that it represents my personality and imagination in a far more visceral way than I could otherwise communicate through this PowerPoint. I usually do pen and watercolor illustration with a focus on the bizarre, grotesque and surreal. The following are several of my pieces that I feel best exemplify who I am.

  7. The Puppeteer

  8. Mechanical Animals

  9. Schism

  10. My Love Affair With Everywhere

  11. The Way Out Is Through

  12. Out Of This World

  13. The end! Thanks for watching!
